Hi all, I am interested in replacing the current rear-view mirror with a Wolfbox G900pro using the 67d Mount or Gentex Full Display LCD Mirror.

I have read through the threads on the Wolf box, has anyone used the Gentex model since its supposedly a widely used OEM?

Currently leaning towards Wolf box since I have found the 67d mount, I was not a fan of the straps. But is there any reason to consider the Gentex model?

Thanks in Advance

I have the G900 but not the Pro model. From the looks of the Gentex it appears smaller than the Wolfbox. I like the size as I can leave both the front and the back camera views on all the time.

Forward Night Vision anyone?

I have the g900 pro. You will need an anti glare screen cover for it and you will have to trim to fit. I’m happy with it but the install is more difficult then you think.

I would imagine the Gentex is the most 'OEM' looking version as it is used by several car manufactures including JLR. Having read about the Gentex as fitted to the new Polestar, it seems to have the same, very small issues as the Wolfbox (which I opted for), in that it does not truly provide the experience of a real mirror, and does take a little getting used to.
For the large, extra cost of Gentex, I am very happy with my choice of Wolfbox.

So I had a “pro” mount my Wolf Box camera today. Should it be wired to an “Always On” fuse? Also, the back seat dome light stayed on after I turned the truck off. It had not done that before. What do you think he did? (After about 15 minutes the dome light turned off.)

I ordered one of these and it has just arrived (I purchased a different camera). I had one on my other car, a Ram 2500 with a canopy. It allows for 2 inputs so I could run one view as off the canopy cover and one off the caravan/trailer.

I like them, they are simple to use with the way the cables work with multiple cameras. I was considering the wolf box, but I didn't really like the second camera being a front facing view.

It clips over the top of the existing mirror. Similar to the way the RAM mounts phone holders work.

I'm not sure what's going on with the back seat dome light @TheLandMan

The Wolfbox non-OBD hardwire kit has three connections:

  1. Black wire. Earth. Connect to a body ground.
  2. Red wire. Accessories. Connect to an active on-with-ignition source.
  3. Yellow wire. Battery +12v. Connect to a constant +12v source.
Red activates the mirror and cameras (2) when the vehicle is turned on. Black + Red are the minimum required DC connections to use the mirror camera.
Yellow activates the optional parking mode if you want the cameras to continue to record when the vehicle is turned off. If yellow is not connected the mirror and cameras power off when the vehicle is turned off.
In parking mode the hardware kit shuts down if the battery voltage drops below 11.6v.

Safety Dave (SD) make some nice kit. Very popular with the grey nomad touring community.
Another Australian Grenadier owner in the forum had an SD kit but he didn't like the mirror or rear camera resolution @ 1080P so he recently swapped it out for a Wolfbox setup. SD don't seem to publish their hardware specs so it's hard to know what is in that mirror/monitor kit.

The forward facing Wolfbox camera is for dash cam mode. The SD monitor is for looking behind you so a slightly different application.

Yeh I was going to run a garmin dashcam. I didn't think the wolfbox allowed for 2 camera inputs (a rear view and a trailer). That was why I went with the safety dave.

I agree, it's rather difficult to find specs on the safety dave gear.

The current Wolfbox models only have a single external camera port which is used for the rear camera. That's their product heritage in the road car market. Wolfbox have been asked through surveys on this forum to add another camera port e.g. for a forward terrain camera or a rear trailer camera.
In the interim I'm playing with a MacGyver'd camera switch cable project and have asked Wolfbox if they could offer similar as an accessory so you can switch which external camera is active. That chat is here.

The gentex looks very good.
I am using the wolfbox 900 and wish it had
a) better night vision
b) a discrete second camera (i would use the front camera in the back as second perspective)

You literally don’t need 90% of the features in a wolf box. Hearing people having to power cycle it due to crashes is kind ridiculous.

Go with gentex. Our Subaru with simple digital mirror has been 100% reliable. .

I'm not sure what an above person thought was hard about the wolfbox. It may take an hour, but it's rather friggin easy. I used the OBD port plug in for power and kept the old mirror in place in case of some sort failure. One would just remove the wolfbox. It's solid and it looks oem.

The front camera is recording what you're already looking at. It's nice for setup, but, why shrink the rear real estate in half while driving?

Hi Zim
When driving, or any other time (Unless I change the settings), I am getting a 100% rear view with my Wolfbox.

The only ‘hard’ part of that install was that ridiculously tight boot/sheathe covering the existing wires going into the big back door. Took some real elbow grease to feed the wolfbox rear camera wire through that thing
