In my BMW‘s with inline six ( Petrol) is novaii dipstick.
you have to check oil with the info system.
I'd guess that's a BMW "limitation" and one that Ineos could not have made happen (if indeed there is no DS). It seems though, to go against the ethos of the vehicle.

The whole motor (both) is against the ethos of the car, but is in line with the ethos of new legislation in many countries. If the motor is reliable, I don't care too much.

I'm going to stick with my proposed solution. If there were no alarms when I parked it, there is a really good chance that it will still have oil in it when I get going again. Doesn't apply if I parked it upside down or in a river, of course!

I just did some research, the first BMW was a 525 with carburettor and 4-speed manual transmission in 1982

Must say, have in the last 35 years a lot of BMW‘s with inline six, Diesel and Petrol, never have to fill up oil between the inspections
That's not necessarily the sign of quality it used to be:

Possibly this is a proof of quality: The problem is recognized and displayed as an error. What else could you do if you don't live in an ideal world.

If you dont already have one, buy yourself a MiniVac for oil changes. You can suck the oil straight through the dipstick holder, this is how BMW changes the oil.
Where does one get one of these?
