That argument is overlooking the Ineos specific design decision to use an 70decible chime to alert user on oil change reminder and refuel reminder.

Literally no other vehicle is as obtuse as this Ineos is when it comes to those superficial events. No other vehicle celebrate them with a 70 decibel chime.

Let’s not give Ineos a pass on their uniquely egregiously poor + unsafe decisions. Else the bong in its current incarnation will never go away.
Can't argue on the volume, personally I don't think we need any noises as they are distracting, we have an info screen that can tell us what's wrong

Speaking of wipers, when mine are on and I come to a halt at a light, they go from constant to intermittent, and when I start to move, back to constant. I find it irritating in a rain storm. Is that normal or is that just a personality disorder of mine?
They wasted time and optimized for the least ROI outcome - a hacky dynamic wiper speed. lol wgaf.

While deferred optimizing the hugely impactful bong volume.

What are we doing?

I have a Rivian R1s, arguably one of the most technologically advanced production vehicles on the road in terms of software, it makes almost no noises. The wipers adjust automatically from zero to full blast etc etc etc.

The noises it does make took years to sample from audio taken from nature, and it was worth it.

The IG is not what you guys thought it was going to be. Most certainly it's not what I was hoping for. It's a wolf in sheep's clothing with some really bad stitchwork. All the tech that nobody wanted is all still in there. It's just hidden from view to make us think it's a simple vehicle. Hell, the ignition isn't even directly connected to the starter. The truck has all the components of a push to start vehicle, Ineos just ditched the start/stop button.

Wipers slowing down a bit when stopping, what a joke. Again all the tech is there just not the rain sensor.

At this point I kind of wish they had just gone all in on the tech rather than trying to hide it from view.

I enjoy my IG and will be hanging on to it, but I will also be honest with myself and others regarding its shortcomings.

My Rivian has been effectively flawless and is a Launch Edition with a super early VIN. My IG though not "problematic" has been a bit of a pain. It shows the difference between a product being deliberately and thoughtfully brought to market vs one that was created with haste.

I love them both and will keep them both. So save your "go buy something else comments".

The other day I was outside my vehicle, doors closed, loading gear in a cart to go shoot clays, I locked or unlocked the IG and it bonged due to low fuel. Even with all the doors closed my buddy looked at me and asked what the hell that was... I just told him that Ineos takes low fuel very seriously.

In much of Europe there are quite large fines for running out of fuel. For example in France on the Autoroutes, €150 to be recovered plus €135 fine.

Perhaps just looking after you?

(Not in the UK, on Bank Holidays there is normally one car per mile broken down through lack of fuel)

I am stopping by the rivian store and kia store to try out the r1s and ev9. I am afraid those will spoil me too much to no longer look at the ig in a positive light.

Hell, each time I internalize an “f u” to the IG, when it bongs at me for superficial reason, it erodes my affection for it a bit..

While Ineos keep up with this lack of software update to fix these issues, the affection capital will just keep eroding.. bit by bit.

Except us yanks don't live in the EU and are a large enough market, IG's largest market, that we want firmware tailored to our laws or lack of laws. Actually, we don't want any of this tech at all. I know it isn't possible but really the only ecu I want is fuel injection. The rest can be done with simple relays. To hell with all these out of control regulations.

lol what’s wrong with European drivers?

Another stress test could be - what other vehicles sold in EU has such intrusive and aggressive fuel warning? I believe this is an Ineos specialty ?

We don't want the stupid rules either, we sadly don't have a choice and are told this is what we want, it's for our own good, saves lives, so get used to it. A recent statement from the Scottish government said 1 life lost on a road is too many and they want to plough as much money is required into achieving this aim.
How do I emigrate to America, PLEASE!!!!?

You should get a rivian. You clearly aren't happy with the IG as you repeatedly complain in multiple threads. Life is short. Driving something that makes you so miserable is not worth it.

Ha ev is to replace our family vehicle..

IG is still my sole vehicle.

If they simple change out the bong sound, with something more subdued, that would be an 80/20 solution imo.

The first few times the fuel level bong went off I was annoyed, but after being off road for a while I realized what the engineers were thinking. The Grenny has a relatively small fuel tank, and a mild bong when you’re doing 30mph on corrugated dirt isn’t going to get your attention.

I hate it, but I appreciate it enough that I want it.

Maybe they should disable all these hardcore feature when you only get the “Smooth Pack” 🤣

What you need is a dynamo. Wipers are speed dependant on my 64 Fiat. Old school just works 😄

My old Toyota 40 Series works that way. Actually it's more rpm dependent. The alternator has a max output of about 50 amps at speed. At idle the lights dim, the blinkers flash a little less vigorously, and the wipers slow to a crawl.

ah So you actually prefer the loud chimes and wish for more off road vehicles to do this, for the washboard use case? Interesting pov

"the rear wiper motor is loud and of low value given the poor visibility out the back. I wish I can override this auto-on behavior."

Get yourself a Wolfbox. The rear wiper cleans the small spot of glass the camera peeks through and does it very well.

The entire “if it just saves one life” emotional argument is how governments begin the process of taking away your freedoms. Life and freedom come with risks. Everyone dies only a few people actually live.

It's the way they seem to rule over here and we have no choice in who we vote in, they're all as bad as each other
