Hi Everyone,

I've just registered with the forum as a huge fan of the Grenadier and plans to purchase a Fieldmaster Station Wagon in teh coming 2-3 months.

I've been following the Grenadier the last couple of years and not so patiently waiting until my son is a little older and we can start doing camping trips etc. I love the story of the Grenadier and the approach to the design.

Any tips/recommendations for purchasing a Grenadier would be great because I'm considering grabbing a second hand one.

Hi @wazarider,

A warm welcome to the best online community for the Grenadier and Quartermaster.

A few hours browsing around here might cause your head to explode, and may even give you pause about jumping into ownership. The Grenadier is a great product but it's imperfect - like every other vehicle. You'll quickly read about steering issues, HVAC issues, software gremlins and other stuff but do keep that in perspective against the benefits of the vehicle. It's not a straightforward consumer purchase so I would commend you to read with your eyes wide open and know the journey ahead. I have been an owner since July 2023 and my vehicle just gets better with more use/km.
Because you're in Melbourne you should consider joining the Ineos Club of Victoria and try to get to some meetings and club days to chat with owners and do some ride alongs to make sure you're informed about your choices and know which options will be of benefit to you. @grenadierboy is an active member of this forum and is on the committee of the Ineos Club of Victoria if you need assistance with a club contact. A free plug there @grenadierboy ;).

Because you're shopping in the used market you should educate yourself on the options available through the online vehicle configurator. This will help you short list used vehicles for consideration. The big options to consider are the front winch, the high load electrical preparation (incl. a 2nd battery), the front and rear diff locks and the tow bar and wiring. These are difficult but not impossible to add on after the factory so I suggest you look at those options closely and assess against how you want to use your future vehicle. The club guys will be happy to talk your head off about those options and more.

Cheers.

Welcome to the forum.

All second hand models will be under warranty still. Not a big used market as yet, some owners have picked up demonstrators.

Most popular model is the Grenadier Trialmaster, with more diesels being sold than petrol, in Australia. This may change with the Quartermaster release. QM is still relatively new for any major trends, the longer term I can see the QM Cab Chassis becoming the biggest seller.

If technical stuff interests you:

1. Download and use the Rok Dr Guide here.
2. Grenadier Accessories (huge selection) for you to buy here;
3. Kanvas bags and products here;
4. Information of Deutsch DTP plugs here;
5. Learn more about the CTEK SMARTPASS 120S and 250SE here;
6. Littelfuse FHZ busbars used in the Grenadier here;
7. Various recommended torque settings here;
8. L track information here;
9. Suggested fuses spares kit here.

Thanks Clark! Yes, all good points. I've been reading up a lot and spent a long time on the configurator. You can only have 5 or 6 configurations LOL.

I've also spent some time talking to a couple of dealers and this is what I'm thinking:
  • Soft Pack *
  • Rough Pack (Diff Locks and KO2 Tyres) *
  • High Load Auxiliary Switch Panel *
  • Raised Air Intake
  • Side Runners & Roo Bar
  • Space for the dual Battery (e.g not an MY24 Fieldmaster)
* those that are deal breakers to me.

I would like the winch and it's a nice to have but at $6k it's a big ask for something I'm probably not going to need for the next 5 years. I'm hoping there will be a few other options by then and I'll get the High Load Auxiliary Switch Panel in the meantime.
If I buy a Grenadier I'm 'planning' to make a commitment for some time and not just change again in a few years. I need a bigger car now for family trips but will take it off road more in the future.

I've been lucky enough to attend a Ineos drive day and test drivin the diesel and petrol models. Last week I got to take an ex-demo for a 1.5 hour drive! Great fun! Steering is definitely different but not an issue for me, I guess it will take a little getting used to. The left hand side foot rest is not an issue for me either :)

I agree and also think there are better winch options out there, which would include an after-market bullbar since you can't fit the OEM winch if you didn't select it from the factory. What I mean is; if you're thinking of getting a non Ineos winch, you'd have to also change your roo bar, so consider whether you'd add this now if you'll replace it later.
