I think we've all read that Ineos have fitted metal tyre valves as they think they are more robust for off road use; but my question is are they fitted with metal dust caps?

I thought they were but mine appear to be plastic, can people check and confirm what they have?

My valves also have plastic caps.

Thanks - my imagination - I would have sworn they were long metal caps...

I guess they must have let the Engineer responsible for overall weight have a win somewhere.

No one uses metal as it might corrode on the stem and make it hard to take off.

They look like standard BMW TPMS valves with the sender on the inside of the rim. Identical to my X5

Right, I'll remember to tell Lotus that next time I'm at the factory; and the numerous military vehicles that come with them as standard.

If your valve caps are corroded to your valve stems, then it means you are a lazy bastard and not checking your tyre pressures as often as you should...a chargeable offence where I'm from.

Can't remember why but when using metal valve caps ( after he cut mine off) the tyre fitter said don't use copper grease but put vaseline on them.

The US has varied climate. And some parts use salt/chemicals on roads. That's why most manufacturers have switched to plastic caps. Even high end ones.

$10 or less on eBay will get you a set of anodised metal caps
