Hi all,

Does anyone know if it is possible to load a GPX track into the pathfinder system and then use pathfinder to follow the track?

So do I simply load a pre-existing GPX track to a USB memory stick and use that to upload it to the car, then use the follow path function to follow the track. Is it as simple as that?

Ah, that means rather than picking up a GPX track that already exists, I would need to create a route using waypoints with something like Garmin Basecamp or Garmin Explore and then export it to a USB stick to load it to the car. The pathfinder system would then give me a compass heading and distance to each waypoint in turn. Is that correct?

If I understand the pathfinder system properly it does seem really basic. I can only imagine using it if I was headed out into a featureless desert area and wanted to be certain I could find my way out again, but even then I would be limited to only retracing my tracks. I have several Garmin GPS units and think I’d be better just using one of those when I go off the beaten track

Thanks for the link. I applaud the work done by the author of that thread but it seems like too much squeeze for too little juice to me. I think I’m going to stick with using either my garmin tread or montana units. It’s a real shame that Ineos couldn’t have put a more useful GPS nav capability into the car.

I've downloaded other people's GPX waypoint tracks from such as wikiloc. These can be uploaded to the Pathfinder section.
For example here is a nice route across the Pyrennees with some 5000 way points.

As you say, nothing really special, I believe you can equally view these waypoint tracks on Google maps via AA or Carplay.

Agreed the pathfinder mode is rather basic and modern GPS systems offer more functionality, That said there are a number of CarPlay and Android auto navigation apps which will load and display GPX tracks. My app of choice at the moment is OSMand Maps.

So far I've found useful to quickly record tracks without fluffing around on my phone or tablet. Its interesting @landmannnn you've been able to load a 5000 waypoint file. I'll have to do some testing as a my understanding from Ineos a year ago was it was a 2000 point limit... but that may have been a recording limit.

Cheers
Steve
