I love the portal stance, but not the light duty appearance of the Letech product. It is certainly not built like Volvo portals…
Are you able to travel at highway speeds with portals or are they for mush slower speeds?
I see the QM of Matzker last week at their garage. Impressive, and sure they don’t drive to France to their offroad days on low speedThe days are on this weekend and the left on thursday….Are you able to travel at highway speeds with portals or are they for mush slower speeds?
I asked someone who drove a Grenadier with LE Tech portals on the Autobahn. He said it was more or less ok up to 110 km/h. But it seems to be quite a difference to the stock axles. Are you able to travel at highway speeds with portals or are they for mush slower speeds?
The Hummer cruised very well at highway speeds. But that truck was essentially low to the ground despite the insane ground clearance.Modern portals are engineered to be "fast axles" for hwy speeds. Compare that to the original Volvo C303, Pinzgauer, Unimog, etc--those rigs were military or tractors essentially, where they were engineered to drive slower than 55mph. Yes, Unimogs could be upgraded to "fast axles" for more hwy speeds, but still, you had to carefully monitor heat in the portal boxes to minimize wear/tear/damage. Modern portals they've engineered them differently however--again, for hwy speeds typically.

They did use at least 2 different gear designs. Straight cut at first and then helical cut gears towards the end of civilian production.
What type of cut does the letech axles use?
