On Monday the dealer delivered my new Trialmaster. So far I'm liking it, although I did get a check engine light with a P0238 code (Turbocharger/Supercharger Boost Sensor 'A' Circuit High) last night while running a short errand. It went away after I came out of a store and restarted the engine, strange.

But my question is about the INT1/INT2 circuits. I want to add a USB outlet to power a cell phone holder with wireless charging, and the connections provided in the footwell seem like a good place to grab the power from. But I can't find any info about whether this is switched (on only when the ignition is on) or constant power - if the INT1 switch on the overhead panel is turned on, will power still be present when the engine is shut off? I'd rather not have the charge on constant power because there's no need for the charge to be drawing power when the vehicle isn't in use. Of course I can pull the panels and test this for myself, but hopefully someone knows the answer already.

If the INT connections are not switched power can someone suggest a good place to find switched power?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Congratulations on your new vehicle
INT 1 &.2 are on when ignition is switched on unless you have the power switch on, which is also on the overhead switch panel this then keeps power on constantly.

Thank you for the quick response! Sounds perfect for my use.

Regarding your tell tail lights I noticed when the battery is low on charge, which it may have been if you just took delivery, the truck may throw different “faults”.

I put mine on a charger between drives and it took two days to get to 99%. I found that took care of the weird telltail notifications.

It is a bit low, I'll put it in a charger. Thanks for the suggestion!

I would like to do the same setup, any chance you could post photos when you are done?

Yes, I will post the details when I do it. Might be a little while though, the Grenadier has to go back to the dealer to figure out what's wrong with it...

An hour ago I went to do a short errand to the grocery store and the Grenadier took 4 times to start and keep running and on the road it was bucking so bad it wouldn't go over 30 mph so I drove it back home. Sent a message to the dealer for them to come get it and make it right.

Sorry to hear that! What do you mean by “bucking”?

We have a UHF on INT1 and a GPS on INT2, all super easy to setup and you’ll find photos on the forum here if you have any trouble removing panels or finding the wires.

Best wishes for a prompt fix!

How many USB ports are you planning to add? One on the driver’s side and one on the passenger’s side?

For now just one USB outlet on the driver's side. Passengers can use the one in the center console; I need my phone visible when driving for navigation and it would be very awkward to have to run a charge cable all the way to the center console for that.

I also need to add unswitched power to the cargo area for the Trail Kitchen that I've been using in my Jeeps (fridge, running water). Have to figure the battery setup for that though, in my Jeeps I have dual batteries and the campsite accessories like the kitchen run off the house battery, which never drains the starting battery. I do have the dual battery option in my Grenadier but I understand it doesn't work that way. It's nice running the campsite off an isolated battery because you never have to worry about starting the vehicle when it's time to leave the wilds; I have to research the Grenadier dual battery system more to figure out the best way to configure the vehicle for campsite electrical. Also my Jeeps have solar input to charge both batteries so that's something else I have to figure for the Grenadier. I'm sure there must be solutions somewhere on this forum :).

Lots of info in the Rok Dr Guide on wiring, fuses, switches, relays.

I have had good results showing navigation data from Apple, Gaia, OnX Maps and more on the main infotainment screen via Apple CarPlay (even without a cable connection). FYI, Bill

Thanks. I'm an Android guy though, so I'll have to try it with Android Auto. I've always found Android Auto to be buggy but I haven't used it in a few years in other vehicles.

@jscherb - interested in the hardtop on your Jeep... is that a 'full rear door' I see above (as opposed to a lift gate)?
Yes, it's a custom hardtop I designed and built. It's got a full barn door on the back, Alpine windows and it's modular so I can run it with the sides removed when I want an open air experience.

The hardtop on my LJ Wrangler is also a custom design I did and also has a full rear door, here's a few photos of it next to my new Grenadier:

After seeing those photos you're probably wondering about me - in addition to seriously using the Jeeps for expeditions (the JKU now has over 325,000 miles on the clock; the LJ over 225,000 and has been to Arctic Ocean at the north of Alaska), I'm also an independent product designer and over the past decade I've done product designs for more than a half dozen Jeep and offroad trailer companies. I've done hardware designs, soft goods designs (custom interior and exterior storage solutions in cloth and leather), fiberglass designs (hardtops and other body parts) and electrical designs and many of the designs I think will adapt well to the Grenadier so I plan to do Grenadier versions. And for the record: I personally don't sell anything, I'm just a designer and whatever I post about here will never be a solicitation to sell anything. If anything I adapt or design specifically to the Grenadier gets to market it'll be because some company picks up the design from me, not because I am selling anything.

I've got a number of designs I plan to do for the Grenadier, I'll post about them as I do them, and as soon as I get the Grenadier back from the dealer to resolve the issues I wrote about above, I'll be testing the products I've designed for Overland Outfitters in the vehicle (www.overland-outfitters.com). Some of them I expect to work as-is with the Grenadier (such as the cargo bag on the spare on the LJ) and some I expect to do Grenadier-specific versions of. OO has indicated interest in producing products for the Grenadier, so maybe some of what I do will get into production, although that's not my call, as I said I don't sell anything, I'm just a designer.

I'll post photos here of some of the Jeep designs I plan to adapt to the Grenadier if anyone is interested.

Very cool! I'm pretty sure I've seen one or both over the years on the internet... I really like how you've made the front end of the LJ look CJ-like. The badge is a fun nod.

The open design of your JK was mimicked by Jeep themselves! With the introduction of the sky top and side panels, I mean.

I'd most definitely be interested in any designs you have in mind for the Grenadier. Hopefully, your's is running properly soon.

I've been out of commission a bit due to recovering from some minor surgery that I had late last week, and my brand-new Grenadier has been back at the dealer since last Friday to fix the check engine codes/bucking problem, but both are coming to an end - I'm back in action, and the dealer called today saying they think they've got it sorted and will bring it back to me tomorrow or Thursday.

In the meantime I've been planning the outfitting details; some things I'll just bring over from the Jeeps and do whatever adaptation is required to install in the Grenadier, for example the Trail Kitchen will come over and should only need a few new mounting holes it its base to adapt to the L-track in the cargo area floor.

Some things I'll need to Grenadier-specific versions though. For example:

Winch. I have one Warn 12,000 lb. winch that I use on all of my Jeeps; it's a receiver mount and to use it on the front of the Jeeps I designed quick install/remove front receivers so I don't have to have either the winch or the front receivers on the vehicles when they're not in expedition use. I've done a design for a quick install front receiver for the Grenadier; it's fairly simple to fabricate and I hope to get to it soon.

Spare carrier cargo receiver. For the Jeeps I've done a cargo carrier design that mounts along with the spare carrier. Slip-in accessories for this mount are a bicycle carrier, and over-spare rack and jerry can/Rotopax carriers. I'll adapt the receivers to the Grenadier spare carrier so all of my accessories that use them will work on the Grenadier.

Overhead/Swing Down MOLLE Panel. One of the designs I've done for a Jeep hardware company is a swing-down MOLLE panel that lives just under the roof in the cargo area. It's very handy because it's pretty much out of the way and out of sight when stowed, so I plan to do a Grenadier version of it.

Hinge-mount steps. I don't find the rear ladder all that useful, so I've removed the one that came with my Trialmaster. TO access the roof rack I'll need something but I'm not a fan of the large steps (for Jeeps or the Grenadier) that mount to two door hinges. For years I've used fold-down steps that mount to just one hinge so they're much less visible on the body side. I plan to do a Grenadier version of these.

Soft goods/storage. I've done a lot of soft goods storage solutions for a Jeep soft goods accessories company; many of those designs will work directly in the Grenadier; some require minor new versions, plus I've got a few new design ideas specific to the Grenadier I'd like to implement. I'll be testing the existing products early in the project and sewing new prototypes of Grenadier-specific solutions. All of the designs I've done for this company feature real leather accents and reinforcements and military-grade canvas construction and the Grenadier designs I do will I'll continue this quality/styling.

When I get started I'll post a thread showing of all of my outfitting details and Grenadier-specific designs. In the meantime if anyone has questions about any of the above I'll be happy to provide more detail.

An update on the bucking problem - the dealer says they found a bad connector in the turbo circuit, bad connections were causing the turbo to run crazy and throw check engine codes. They say they replaced the connector, drove it a lot to test it (it's got 100 more miles on it than when it was picked up by the flatbed on Friday), and returned it yesterday. I drove it about 12 miles last night and it seems ok.

When I start configuring it for my expedition use I'll start a thread and detail everything I'm doing.

Long time TJ owner/driver prior to the Grenadier; If your interested in this style on some of the older Jeeps GR8TOPS still builds them I believe and they do relocate the lifting rear glass onto the door to create the barn style door affect. https://gr8tops.com/shop/jeepmodels/wrangler-tj-2/tj-safari-cab-full-length-hardtop#

@jscherb Super cool work on those roofs you built out! Glad they got your grenadier sorted quickly.
