Yes it’s crap. I oil mine regularly and it’s still crap.

I keep recovery kit in it, I can think of nothing worse than being stuck, needing my shackles and straps and not being able to open the fkin thing.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great idea. The box itself is ok quality. The lock is rubbish.

Re the lock, my wheelbox was ordered with the car but arrived 6 months late due to an oversight. Lock not included; thought about putting one on. However I figured a lock suggests valuable content , and thus attracts petty thieves.
I just keep spare boots , bits of rope, plastic bags etc. Good place for muddy/sandy anything.
Not recovery gear, unless I'm connected to the car via
metaphorical umbilical cord.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great idea. The box itself is ok quality. The lock is rubbish.

I don’t bother locking mine but do have the zippable Tougher cover, so it’s not seen.

The Ineos plastic box and flap and gasket to keep out water/dust are decent enough. But the quality of the lock and key is absolute garbage. Shameful for a factory accessory. Every time I've used the lock, I'm left wondering if this will be the time it doesn't unlock when I need it to.

I have a dual ARB compressor installed in that compartment behind that shitty lock. So I leave it unlocked. More reliable and still reasonably secure -- the compressor in there is held by several hex bolts that would take some time to locate until familiar. I may move the compressor back into the cargo area when decide on shelving and drawers.

Yes, bit stiff getting the key in but fixed with some WD40.

I expect it wouldn’t be too difficult to replace with a higher quality marine version. I was thinking about changing that lock and the center box lock with a keyed alike version.
