Make no mistake. This is a once-in-a-lifetime offer, open to a small number of very lucky people.

The chance to see the most jaw-droppingly remote and beautiful areas of South Africa. From behind the wheel of a 4X4 built for exactly this kind of trip: the INEOS Grenadier.

Specially selected hotels, lodges and retreats, and food and wine, from start to finish. Utterly breathtaking flora and fauna. And expert 4X4 tuition from guides who know the vehicle, the country, and the terrain. Giving you countless new off-roading skills, not to mention memories, that will last a lifetime.
All-in-all, a truly magical experience. And inspired by the types of trip taken by Jim Ratcliffe himself.

This is an unmissable opportunity to follow in Jim’s tracks and join us on our first, exclusive, community expedition. Price includes Grenadier rental, or you could ship your own Grenadier and use that if you’d prefer.

Numbers are strictly limited to 16 people (one couple per Grenadier). So, follow the link below to discover the unique itinerary we’ve put together, and register your interest as soon as possible. A member of our team will then contact you to discuss further and answer any questions you have.

“London, 27 March 2024 – INEOS Automotive has announced a bespoke expedition for adventurous 4X4 drivers, covering 1,500km over eight days in South Africa. The exclusive trip will give 16 guests access to breathtaking scenery, luxury accommodation and a hands-on overlanding drive in Grenadiers that will never be forgotten.

Starting on 4 May, the inaugural expedition has been locally curated and traverses game reserves and private estates, staying at selected premium hotels, luxury game lodges and a private manor house. Departing from Cape Town the trip will go through Paarl and Wellington winelands, over the Cedarberg wilderness area, Roggeveld and Outeniqua Mountains and through the Tankwa and Great Karoo biomes, before finishing at Gqeberha on the Eastern Cape coastline. The adventure will be led by INEOS Kavango, the specialist conversion division based in northern Botswana with extensive experience across the region.

Charles Van Rensburg, CEO of INEOS Kavango, said: “Overlanding really is the ultimate way to experience Africa, and this trip adds local knowledge and the right equipment for those who want the adventure but haven’t the time or expertise to organise it. Our overlanders can expect a once-in-a-lifetime experience and a test drive that won’t be forgotten.”

The excursion is designed to give 4X4 drivers from around the world the opportunity to put the INEOS Grenadier through its paces in the incredible environment which it was engineered to tackle with ease. Spaces are limited to just sixteen guests and includes all planned activities, freshly prepared meals, and full technical and logistical support. The expedition will be led by professional off-road guides with local specialists and will be captured by a dedicated video and photography team.

Lynn Calder, CEO of INEOS Automotive, said: “I’ve tested the Grenadier personally in several of the locations this expedition will cover and it’s exhilarating, it’s a drive the vehicle was built for. This promises to be a truly special experience with the hands-on knowledge that’s incredibly rare and lets you just focus on your own adventure.”

Three further expeditions – one each in Botswana, Namibia and South Africa, are scheduled to take place later in the year. Further details can be found at https://ineosgrenadier.com/en/gb/ineos-expeditions-south-africa. “

This is a ridiculously cool opportunity and creative marketing, and, frankly, the price of $9,200 per person does not sound too crazy, especially if that includes the Grenadier rental for the trip. This seems to be one of those "trips of a lifetime." Has any other car manufacturer done anything similar?

I got the e-mail and decided I am much too poor to contemplate it! £15,000 for myself and spouse to trog around SA?

I am reminded of Rowan Atkinson, (famous for the 2nd most expensive motor claim in the UK, when he crashed his McLaren F1), who said he did not realise how poor he was until he joined the Aston Martin Owner Club.

The nearest Land Rover equivalent is buy a Land Rover Works Defender V8 Trophy and you can take part in an off road challenge around the JLR test track at Eastnor Castle, (entry price about £225k). 25 off in yellow, https://www.landrover.co.uk/explore-land-rover/land-rover-classic/defender-works-v8-trophy.html

Just wondering if anyone has heard back from Ineos in regard to the South Africa trip?
It leaves in just under 4 weeks time, would be good if they replied to 'register your interest' one way or the other!

I received an email yesterday basically saying demand is high but sit tight and I'll hear something soon.

This whole trip is going the same way as the hard way home trip or whatever it was called.

I registered interest and got the same email. Which means they are still buggering around for a trip that is supposed to be setting off on the 4th of May.

I would suggest that they will be filling it with clients from SA or people they have already sorted out.

£15k for two people for just over a week is steep, and having looked at it, I can hire a fully kitted out Land Cruiser bukkie for about £150 a day + fuel and go do my own trip !!.

I would have signed up for this in a heartbeat, but the announcement came the day after I just got home from a trip to Ethiopia. Hopefully they will pan something in a year or so.

Simien Mountains and whole Tigray are just stunning from landscape and cultural perspective. Unfortunately since October 2020 off limits. We have been there with motorcylce (in February/March 2020) and shipping food and medical equipment via container to a mission supporting 1500 children. Very sad situation there.

We have a facility in Bahir Dar that we can't visit due to security concerns.

Security concerns is very polite - I rather would say due to Military intervention from the government. By chance I ran into a Nato conference there back in 2020 ...
BTW here our experience on the bike if somebody is interested

Yea, we sent a local from the south to go up to Bahir Dar and when he arrived everyone at the facility was concerned and told him that it was not safe for him to be there.

As this adventure of a lifetime kicks off in a week and a half, can I have a show of hands who has been selected to go on the trip.

In fact could I have a show of hands from anyone on here who has been contacted by IA over and above the email saying thanks for your interest we will be in touch soon !! It’s a certain fact I haven’t.

I think this must have been organised by the same department who are responsible for the online technical manuals.
