Heating system is useless

The heating system in my field master has been rubbish from day 1
Now covered 7000 miles.
Car was delivered with a damaged water hose which was replaced by the selling dealer.
However they could not get the heater to blow anything other than cold air into the footwells.
Eventually went to another (service) dealer who did improve matters by bleeding the system
However the whole system is rubbish for a £70k vehicle

Ineos have admitted that the heating system is poor and suggest running in auto mode once you’ve got the car warm.
Even then my feet are always cold

They have accepted that it’s rubbish and a very basic design.

There are no plans to improve or modify it.

I believe it is not of merchantable quality and certainly not fit for purpose !!!

Really spoils an otherwise super 4x4

Sorry to hear that, I am back up in Durango. With all the issue every one logging about heat, I plan on checking out heating system, especially now it is 14 F/-10C at night and soon will be getting closer to night time temp of -5F/-20.5C in early January. I throw the IR thermometer in the truck to see what temp I see in different part of the cabin and log it.

Now I had bit more fun with house heat Sunday night when I rolled into Durango and it was 15 degrees that night , the house was 39-40 degrees due heater having issue with draft pressure switch, so heater has not been turning on for some time. I normally leave about 56 to 58 when I am gone for period of time, do not want pipes to freeze. Had pull the front panel until tech came today, it was pulling vacuum, with partial cover it could get fresh air to light the burners. Tech came today now firing up correctly.

Stay warm and safe out there this winter.

Really highlights their incompetence - in design, execution, and quality assurance.

Cool / hot air are such trivial use cases to exercise. 1 million test driven miles? Pffttt

We did clean it, but we had to clean out cold air return, we saw bees in the heater box, but really looks like it was hose clamp was loose on exhaust vent connection where you see QR code in picture. I was getting a lot vacuum do to it, now ignition is faster as well.

I will still check temp tonight in the Grenadier, I need to run down the store.. Yesterday when I had heat on in Grenadier , I admit I put it on Auto, it very hot in the truck. had dial it back. Also the heated seat they warmer then my x5 seats, they get hot quick. it funny hearing all vent that open for heat when your in the truck.

Above the Central and Side vents 90 -95 F degrees near top of the vents

I was seeing 80 F down in foot well in the general area.

This was short drive from my house down to Durango 's Albertsons and back. about 7 miles there and 7 mile back

I did not have heat all the way up- and it still really warm in the car, @skibum35 I would have Red Noland take a look at your truck if it is now getting hot.

The Vent for your feet, what would help is another vent over by the door for you feet.

I really hope over the next year or so they get this crap sorted because on paper the car is perfect IMO , it’s just the attention to detail that is really disappointing

It be interesting to understand what age the truck are that are seeing issue. I picked my truck last March of 2024, which you can see does not have heat issue. if anything it run hot. Did you have heated seat on this drive, Also had on purpose left the truck out for 5 hours before I drove down to Albertson, so interior was in high 30's when I started the drive.

Remember at 7000 feet where I am water boils at 198.9°F just to put vent temp in prospective.

I can only get heat if I have it on the MAX heat setting, the next degree down and its cold cold cold air! But in QLD that isn't a bad thing as we have hot days for most of the year. However, the lack of heat on the few weeks of cold we get is not good - I think it made one my kids sick being exposed to cool for too long.

It happens - there cannot be any justification in 2020s for poor design and implementation given the massive number of resources poured into basic design, as vehicles are not a new concept.

The issue with you using the bi level mode is there is no air coming out of the rear vents.

With my vehicle, I also get warm air while in bi level. however only speed 1 + recirculate results in usable state. All other permutations have annoying wind whistle or unnecessarily high fan speed + fan blower noise. Then there is the issue of rear vents being turned off during bi level.

There is only a very narrow state of the hvac, where most requirements are somewhat satisfactory. And when I say “requirements”, keep in mind this is 2024, and these are requirements for vehicle interior heat. The industry solved this technical challenge probably 70 years ago. lol what the hell were they thinking?

I think the issue is that the vehicles are inconsistent. Some work perfectly well, some not. That applies to heating, geometry, window and door seals and probably lots of other things.

Perhaps not a huge surprise for a startup automotive company but not great for the customers who got a vehicle with any of the problems.

This is true as well. Although, some respondents simply replying with 'it is a non-issue' can be seen as dismissive, however it happens in EVERY forum I have ever seen. In itself this too isn't generally a problem, because free speech and all that! Example is that my electrical systems for the most part have been behaving very well for more than 6 months now, and others still have issues. I can see that being a problem for many when such issues persist!

I would be a content owner if Ineos comes out and indicates a solution is in the works.. or publish a tsb..

The combination of egregious issues and zero communication from ineos, adds up to a frustrating and low trust situation.
“This is the way it is” is another way to suggest, early adopters should pay for Ineos’ incompetence in basic engineering.

My affection for this scrappy auto venture is finite.

I am of the same opinion and expected issues for this reason. Tesla was the same. Doesn't matter how much they cost, you haven't got decades of manufacturing and engineering experience/knowledge to develop a new vehicle. Even the historical manufacturers can get it wrong with a new vehicle so why anyone would expect near perfection just because the vehicle is expensive, they were supposed to be cheaper, inflation due to COVID messed that up on all vehicles.

With regards to the heating, keep taking it back to dealer to bleed until it works 'reasonably well', it took a few goes with mine. Occasionally has a bit of a wobble, too hot in cabin, slight adjustment goes cold, run on ice cold for a short time at high fan speed and it seems to reset the sensors. I can then use auto again on a mid temp. This is generally a problem when I've had manual mode, hot on feet for some time. Out yesterday, 250ish miles and had to do this to get it to auto after a cold morning trying to warm my feet up.
If it doesn't work keep bleeding the system, it will work.
