Hello,

I bet here are at least some GLASS members. Me personally joined the GLASS about 2014/2015, not sure. We did green laning in the UK a few times, last time in 2022. The first time we went through Wales incl. Strada Florida, Bastard Lane and Happy Valley. In 2022 we were in Devon and Dorset, at the Jurrassic coast.

I always drive with mixed emotions, as you're not always welcome. What about you? Do you notice an increasing uncomfortability and an increasing disaffirmation while laning?

I am also a member, but have never driven a Green Lane.
We are planning to go on holiday to Wales in August. I'm going to ride a few routes there.

Wales? Try the Bastard lane near Machynlleth, if possible. But drive it in the right direction, downhill starting 52.60023, -3.85978. We made a mistake and drove it uphill. No chance without a winch and even worse when wet.
Strata Florida is also great. Check pictures here:

As July '23 was last response to this it might be worth re-opening as there must be a lot more new forum member/owners/GLASS members
I'm currently all 3😁
Any more?

I have no idea what you're talking about. Sounds kind of great? :)
It's an England & Wales organisation for protecting the green lanes that we can use in UK
Obviously you can be from anywhere in the world and join as you would still have access to them were you to travel to UK, Scotland is different.
Intending to sign up 😊
I'm sure your earlier post suggested the same, they do an excellent job of fighting for our rights to use the lanes and keeping them open. It's not expensive and you get access to TrailWise which is very useful.

The GLASS is an organization which protects the right of way in the UK and supports that by encouraging to use the lanes. They have a code of conduct to follow. Members gain access to a database with all lanes, their usage and status.

You also can se Ordnance Survey Explorer Maps to find legal green lanes, but yo should know how all of that works....and that aain leads you to the GLASS.

England and Wales only, not the UK. Scotland is completely different with no green lanes or BOATs (byways open to all traffic. All ( nearly all) off road is private land and requires the land owners permission. In Scotland is the " right to roam" law. But that only applies to recreational walking, biking, canoeing et al. Motor vehicles ( and shooting) are statutory excluded.

I go to Wales and have contacts with free lodging, is this the type of social organization that could assist in locating legal lanes for an American renting a capable truck, if he should happen to Join?
Exactly that, there is a place in Wales that advertise with GLASS that do B&B and organise green lane tours

So Scotland is basically Texas. In PA and us forest land, it used to be all lanes are open unless marked closed, and now it all lanes are closed unless marked open. A-holes on quads pretty much killed it all. Between the garbage and never sticking to the trails, while it hurts, I understand the decision. Even if the 80’s hadn’t happened, the move of off-roaders from 100hp Cj5’s on 30’s to 400hp raptors on 37’s rutting and eroding everything, the closures would have occurred anyway. 🫤
