Gen 2 news?

If history is anything to go by I am not sure the next generation Grenadier will be an improvement.

Most of us appear to live in societies where in the absence of anything more useful to do governments mandate more and more complex vehicle emission and safety features under the guise of "you can't put a price on a life saved, we are all facing a climate emergency" and so on ad infinitum.

I have a horrible feeling that the next generation Grenadier will respond to legislation by being even more bossy and patronising. More active speed limiters, noisier lane assist bongers, uncomfortable seat belt tensioners, an ignition system that won't let you drive it if you have had a drink and it will probably warn us that it is fitted with smoke detectors, will stop immediately if we smoke in the car and contact the authorities to ensure that we attend a course to learn the error of our ways.

Best to buy one before all of that happens and make sure that you look after it so that it "sees you out".

I have a 1964 TR4 and a 1953 Jaguar that are still going strong as they basically have nothing to go wrong on them. That said they are both pretty horrible top drive on a long night journey in the driving rain so I guess there has been some progress in car design since then.

I hope they just have a big button on the dash that you can program to turn off all the shit you don’t want. Lynn Calder certainly talks about that stuff being a pain.

Hoping for some good news :)
Well, there are no windshields available at the dealership right now. They are not sure when they will be available again. No ETA.
So they are expensive and unavailable. I do know that.
I found out that the Power Steering Pump has to hit 90 decibels in order for it to be considered for replacement. 🤪
New software update is still coming someday according to service department. No ETA, it’s just coming.

If you're desperate, call around, I know more than a few dealerships that usually try to stockpile over a dozen of them at all times

Don’t hold your breathe. Loud power steering pump noise, HVAC that doesn’t know if it’s coming or going. If you can live with some annoying things and dealerships that really don’t care to or are even capable of fixing things. It’s a pretty capable truck. Oh almost forgot the windshield glass that will almost certainly need to be replaced once a year at $3300 a pop.
Most car insurance policies come with one free windscreen replacement per year.

These just barely hit the market. Typical generation lasts 8 to 12 years. Maybe a mid gen spruce up. But nothing huge.

Being the whole reason for the IG is to retain classic style and utility I don’t expect much change for a while other than necessary fix it mods. B58 is already 10 years old. Not sure of the ZF8 I think it’s older.

After all proven designs is the appeal of the IG. I don’t expect a new generation until 2035. It’ll be a wait.

EV and alternative fuel is up in the air at the moment. Except for ONE possibility a EV design doesn’t do well on an existing traditional ICE vehicle. Even that design would require tons of mods and it’s more a reason to fit huge batteries. Look at Jeeps 4xe and no one wants to admit it but it’s a flop. So is the Ford lightning. Only the new Ram extended range EV looks very good and that will be a logical trend.

Also research DeBoss garage teaming up with Edison Motors. EV only in a heavy rig just isn’t happening. A gas or diesel - electric , now that’s a whole different game.
