Fun little factoids

Remember though - I’m American so that might not apply to the rest of the world. It’s usually us and Liberia that are the holdouts for most things.

Really? Because you really don't think of Liberia as having their stuff together.

In this case (marine matters), perhaps Liberia may have a lot of clout as it is a frequent “flag of convince” for ship registration?

I had a navy guy tell me that right is starboard and to remember, “I’m gonna punch you with my right fist and you will see stars. Starboard. Even you, Ed, can figure out port is the other one.”

I am not a boat guy but there is little doubt this was added to the truck for that. The lights don’t move on the boat—direction does, thus the RRR rule.

I'm not a blue water guy by any means but I was once told the origin of "starboard" by an old sailor. He said:

"Starboard is an abbreviated form of steering board which were traditionally on the right side of the ship. The left was subsequently referred to as the port side because the ship couldn't be docked against the steering board."

Don't know if it's true. Makes me wonder about "poop deck". :poop:
