FAQ Forum Members Map

I can't drop a members pin, I have no access to that, it is done from the members individual account, or automatically by ip every time the system updates..
Using the words "member" and "pin" in the same sentence makes me wince.
In the late 80s I was a urology resident in a hospital where the occasional patient was admitted for trial of Caverject. Guess who had to administer the stuff?
Our journeys in life take us to all ends...🙂

is GRUNT obsolete now?
I would say yes and no ...

Grunt is:
  • for owners or future owners
  • dealers and maintenance workshops
  • exact or almost exact coordinates
The forum map is "forum members":
  • the two categories above
  • approximate coordinates (unless the member improves it)
  • other interested people
  • Ineos employees ("lurkers")
  • dealer employees (other lurkers)
  • accessories providers
@emax and @Stu_Barnes can correct me.

Stu, it works very well. Absolutely interesting. Many members, for the reasons exposed above, are 'much more then fine' dislocated on the map. I was exulting seeing a member very close to my city in Sardinia, just to find that he lives in Santa Fé, NM:D BTW, to refine my position (200 km) was very easy...

Finally the members map is live.

View attachment 7822905

Select 'members' from the dropdown menu and then 'member map'

The positions are generated by your IP address and not your geolocation the map centers on your current IP address location.

For the map to populate you need to let the forum know your location when asked.

Only registered members can view this resource.

If you would like to opt out, then in your preferences select the option to hide your online presence.

You can fine tune your location if you wish.

Also if you're using some sort of VPN software then you'll be popping up all over the place ;)

EDIT. If you don't see your entry then give it a while, the system only populates in batches.

Also on the iPhone

Settings > privacy and security > location services > safari websites (and I have “while using app” selected)

To ensure you allow your device to share the location with the forum software. If not then you’ll just get a blank screen.
Hi Stu,
The maps a great initiative but when zooming in the numbers don't add up. For example zoom in on Australia, then on NSW. The pins for Sydney members show only a few and not the hundreds when zoomed out.
Anyway as I said a great initiative.

Hi @Korg a lot of members chose not to have their location shared. This I think accounts for the discrepancy. I’ll double check with the software developer though.

I found that my pin was 'hidden' beneath another. Perhaps if multiple members choose 'Sydney' as their location they are all stacked at the one location - the geographical centre of Sydney?

My IP links me to Auckland NZ , even though I'm far far south atm , and far east of my home country right now!

Hey, no shame, it took me a while to work out. Just don’t tell Krabby, he still doesn’t know how to get it working on his iPad ;)
Fyi, even with settings adjusted as per your i structions, no joy on ipad. Not a massive problem, thought you should know.
