Expedition HQ or XHQ (Gold Coast, Qld, Australia)

I was surprised you fitted the tow pack and a roof top tent.
Even more surprised that you also have the Letech platform, plus the roof top tent plus a hybrid van.
Any reason you went for a tent plus a van?
That build is NOT my car. This is my car:
full

I always slept inside the car. Now moving to a hybrid van. I have no rooftop tent. I was just working out what went into that build by XHQ.

Some nice gear on that build but not really well thought out for some of it
One example side bars for serious off road use but no rock sliders just stupid electric side steps, I don’t get that at all another very questionable design decision was the maxtrax and shovel inside the car, anyone who has done proper 4wding or touring that needs half the gear they have will know dam well that won’t work in the real world.
I also wonder what the GVM is now like without an upgrade or has been done?
That what I dislike , love the rest of the fit out and the side pods are an awesome bit of kit.
An fantastic tourer for someone
I think it looks more like a demo vehicle than a real tourer.
Agree on the Max tracks and shovel location if you have been recovering from mud I wouldn't want them to go back inside.
If you are going to put that very heavy tent up top then there is no need for the full Letech platform. Unless planning on taking the tent off for day to day.
The two combined would be over the 150KG weight or close to it.

This is a forum member's truck - I cannot recall to whom it belongs.

If you mean that car, with the AWC stickers, it is my car. Not sure who owns the XHQ build car.

Toooootally misread your post - I stopped reading after "That build is NOT my car"

Duh.

Your truck looks fantastic.

That RORO canopy/RTT is something that would suit me to a T. I'd love to have a look through one of these. Great setup!
So the camper and the canopy come off as a single piece? Or just the RT camper? (EDIT: looks like one complete piece) Never heard of Tommy before but they look like a quality product. That setup is a Norweld tray and Tommy camper. Some YouTube videos seems to show the Tommy Camper comes with its own canopy, so this maybe a new category Tommy/Norweld hybrid.

Tommy Campers appear only to fit on single or duel cab utes. But that is based on a quick look on their website.

Much safer way to get in out of a Tommy RT Camper, than some other brands. That was always a big negative for me.

Awning with legs is a negative for me, but other brands may not fit such a setup, unless someone does some custom work.

It is interesting to see where they are going with the cab chassis.

The Tommy Campers website isn't really much of a resource
The whole camper comes with 4 legs that allow you to leave it set up and drive the vehicle away, or leave it at home for day to day vehicle use.

Agreed, I had to look at some Youtube videos.

So you need a second canopy if you are a tradie and change it when you go away. Or you just always have the camper on.

I wonder what something like this would look like on a Dual-Cab Chassis version, rather than sitting on top of a tray? So a custom camper space permanently mounted?
They seem to all sit on a tray.
Maybe the fact they are made from aluminium means they do not have a rigid shell or crash structure so need to be supported.
I notice they are often permanently mounted though and not removable.

The slide on version for the QM lets it be used with and without the canopy/RTT. I can see why they did it this way. Tradie's tray on weekdays and camper on weekends.

The slide on for the Norweld tray makes it easier for Tommy Campers to develop and build a canopy/RTT for a niche market like the QM. The least change from your usual proven business model.

You cannot buy the QM cab chassis without a tray or tray/canopy combo (it is not road worthy). Which is why you buy the cab chassis from the dealer and not INEOS, the dealer gets the tray/canopy done working with the customer before registration. The finished cab chassis is then sold to the customer by the dealer. You cannot drive down to Tommy Campers with a bare cab chassis without a tray. If the QM market grows Tommy Campers may also offer a tray with the RTT.

Only option, at present, appears to be a Norweld tray then go down to Tommy Campers and order the canopy/RTT.
