Error Message "Tyre pressure sensor lost"

I had this happen to me last week. The TPMS system re-set itself while I was driving the following day with a quiet 'bong' over the infotainment system but otherwise no other message.

Similar story with an ESC 'uphill assist, downhill assist, ESC unavailable, reduced braking performance’ warning that came up a few weeks ago. Very annoying but at least the system is capable of re-setting.

Both issues must be wheel sensor related and the only common factor between my error messages was that they both appeared after heavy rain, so maybe it's damp in the system? My local dealer is going to take a look when I take it in for unsticky door seals next month

Today on a short trip up the M5 has to accelerate to get out of trouble and got the high pressure warning for rear right tyre. Which I wouldn’t have expected at 38psi. What tyre pressures are people running?

Late in the day and the dashboard lights up with an amber message "Tyre pressure sensor lost". Checking the displays, you can see that all four are lost, so I guess the sensor receiver is disconnected/toast.

The Grenadier is booked in for diagnostics on the 24th January, (Chandlers are busy and short a technician).

It's this sort of dumb failure that drives my desire for the full workshop manual now. This should not be a big mystery; it's either a wire break or a failed unit, it should not need a trip to the dealer for diagnosis and fixing. You don't get this sort of irritation with a LR110CSW 200Tdi, (just cold, wet feet, deafened, vibrated and a little cramped!)

I'll report back on the fix, when I have one.

Do you have anything plugged into the OBDII port? I had a speedo plugged in there and kept getting this error. I unplugged it and the error has not returned.

I’m running at 36psi. Although on a cold morning at the weekend they were down to 34psi. But came upto 37psi on a long motorway run. Do you have the latest software. I don’t get these warnings anymore since the very latest updates. A further update installed last week to the “head unit “ whatever that may be.

I am also in the UK and run at 36 psi

17 inch wheels at 36psi all round. I'm have been happy with this for the past 8000 miles. I would increase this is carrying a heavy load..

Good question. I don’t think so, as last software update was done 4 months ago, but car is going back in for the heating/cooling issue again so I’ll check if it’s done then. I run them at 35psi all round but might up it having seen the screen shot from the manual below.

Mine also gives out the occasional warning for the right rear. Oddly it will show 36psi all round but always trigger on the right rear.
My guess is a software glitch or maybe the sensor in that wheel is producing a spike.
I just reset in the vehicle settings and forget about it.

Less than 2000 miles, NA, on the way to work got the message. Hopefully it'll reset. Yet, it would be good to check solid connections and verify no potential rodent damage. Do we know where the tyre module exists?

I've had new vehicles with pins not properly seated that caused odd issues. Rodents raised hell with my Tundra as well.

OK possibly a silly question but, every day is a learning day ---- why is the spare tyre recommended pressure so high?

That is so you can use it on any of your tyres, eg if you have a full heavy load and are running high tyre pressure then it is at that high pressure to save you pumping it up if you need it. Assuming you had a pump. If you are running lower pressure it is easier to let air out, and you don't need a pump to do it. In addition I bet very few people check the pressure of their spare, so it can still loose some and still be usable

Mine has done this twice, no rhyme or reason. Both times they have come back on after I have let it sit. It takes a bit for them to turn back on once you start driving so give it a few blocks.

Thanks mate, makes sense.

Loss of TPMS could possibly be RF interference. For example if you have got a DAB radio (European models) you will know that you lose signal when driving past phone masts.
Other that 3/4/5g masts, electric motors and microwaves are some of the worst culprits for RF leakage. Not so many microwaves on the road, but plenty of cars with powerful electric motors.
Next time it happens, double check that there isn't a Tesla drafting you.

Interesting, will do!

Now this is an interesting post, I have had the loss of signal twice and about a week apart, the interesting thing was both losses occurred in the exact same spot on a local road, which happens to have a local airfield right next to it.

I did wonder at the time if it was something to do with the location, but just ended up putting it down to coincidence. Maybe it wasn’t then !!

Hi - i have the TPS Lost message on screen for about a month - tyres pumped over recommended pressure but message persists despite taking it on a number of long drives.

Seems everyone on this thread had a short term issue with this message - anyone had a long term issue and found a fix?

Many thanks

HF - I had this happen to me. Initially the warning was for low pressure which disappeared after an hour or so driving. However the next day the lost TPMS message appeared. On the off chance I checked the TPMS valve on the offending wheel and it was slightly loose. Once I tightened it the warning disappeared and, touch wood, continues to work perfectly.

The Grenadier is quietly taking the piss; the fault has disappeared after a day and several starts and stops.

I'll have to ring Chandlers to see what to do next. Finding intermittent faults, especially if they aren't currently presented, is a real pain in the ass!
Mine did the same 10,000 miles ago it seem OK now
