I jumped in the car to go for breakfast this morning and then I got an unexpected Christmas Tree show. So many lights and bongs. Anyone else seen or had this? Tried several restarts. Plugged in the code reader and it shows 4 faults and 10 monitors not working. Will not decode details. Probably a cheaper ODBII reader. Did not reset them. Logged call with dealer to come tow it away.

Good lord. I've had the speed assist thing go red and get a couple lights, restarting solved that freakout, but nothing like this. Sorry.

Yes, I have had the speed assist and the emergency braking come up randomly non working but they usually go away after a few miles. I am at the point of either trading the car for a Lexus; selling ti back to the dealer, or worse, looking into rejecting it for constant problems. It is just too annoying with all its idiosyncrasies and the time to release new software (no updates since I picked the car up in Feb/24 - Sewell say non available). And fuel economy is starting to aggravate me.

On top of that the windshield is crap. It is so badly chipped all over I now need an insurance claim to replace it.

Other Problems

  • Some of the settings such as speed clicking toggle stay set after keys out and sometimes they don’t. Software issue.
  • TPMS reads erroneously. Front left is the worse. Alerts low pressure when the same as other tires.
  • Door knobs on right side stick intermittently. Passenger rear is worse but both do it.
  • Multi-select knob works when it feels like it.
  • Fav button often stops at first screen. Has to be pressed again to return to home and then again to go back to fav option.
  • CarPlay crashes all the time, often when the ambient temp is high. This also happens when hitting fav button while CarPlay is starting up.
  • Heated seats get red hot when turned on and then go Luke warm at best regardless of settings. Turning off and on again resets them but same issue repeats.
  • When slowing down there are a lot of transmission clunks as if it is changing down late. This occurs often when slowing down from highway speeds to a stop light.
  • When we hit bumps the rear door alarm sounds.
  • Auto headlight setting is poor. Headlights stay on even in bright light. Seems like sensor is poorly calibrated.
  • Altitude is reading about 30-50 feet lower than true. Needs calibrating.
  • AC drips into both front footwells in humid conditions.
  • The check engine light is randomly triggered when refueling if the pump does not shut off quickly enough. Level sensor issue?

Well I have had a similar "Christmas Tree" light up - but not including PDC (?) nor Gearbox. Kept driving as I was no where near a dealer and the vehicle didn't "feel" different. It was all linked back to a dealer not properly securing the bolts on the steering bar following their attempt to straighten the steering wheel (delivered with a "left" tilt).
Look forward to hearing how all this works out. Very challenging I do understand.
Cheers!

Well that is interesting as I had that self same fix when I collected the car. Mine was right tilted! Wouldn't it be interesting if that was a thing!

No obd reader?
Yep. Only a cheap one and it shows 4 errors and 10 monitors not working or at least n/a.

A quick Google and I get "If you see error codes 7E8 and 7E9 on your diagnostic test, it means that there are failures in the engine control system and the transmission management system, respectively. These failures can cause a variety of problems with your car's engine or transmission."

7EA seems to indicate a sensor read error. No shit Sherlock

That's all I know.

If the dealership "corrected" the steering wheel back to center and didn't tighten down the nuts, then yes that may be the source of the issue. Hope it proves to be something simple! I think the challenge with the dealership mechanics is they are working under what the manual indicates as "adequate" time of repair but not actually ensuring the issue is corrected. Within minutes of leaving a 2nd dealership, the original issue recurred. Took the vehicle to my independent mechanic, discussed the issue. Yep the nut on the opposite side of what the dealership corrected was loose. We were puzzled as to how that happened. They spent the proper amount of time under the vehicle correcting the issue and thinking things thru. That took about 1.5 hrs. Driven since with confidence. Just not sure if the dealership mechanics have a good grasp on training / understanding this vehicle / understanding 4x4 vehicles. Thinking some do , most may not. I will be running every concern thru my independent first so I can tell the dealership exactly what is the issue. This is efficiency for me. I'm 2.5 to 3.5 hrs away from dealers and only 1 hr away from my mechanic. (knew and accepted this before purchase). Depending on what the "issue" and "fix" is for things, may just let the independent handle it vs dealership. In my mind it would be money well spent for a vehicle I love.
Cheers!

My feeling: it is a pure electric or electronic problem:
  • or - indeed - an ECU "meltdown"
  • or a bad earthing somewhere
  • or another bad elctric contact.
But I could be wrong.

For sudden multiple faults I would check battery condition first, get it load tested not just a voltage check
If the battery is good check all the main earth points, sadly very difficult on a new car with no wiring diagram or workshop manual
Is it one with water leaks? That also could be a cause

Funny, I've had similar issues. Not a deal breaker for me, but here's my list:

Door buttons sticking-check. I slam the hell out of the door to make it pop out

Windshield-check. I'm on #2, lost the first one at 500 miles. I'm cursed this way, however. I seem to get one windshield replacement shortly after buying a new vehicle. Fortunately insurance covered the $2200

Check engine after fuel-check. It came on, I called the dealer, and he asked 'Did you get gas? Yes? Well, there's you're problem!' I fortunately have a reader, so I could reset it. Dealer hopefully fixed it.

Seat heaters? check. Red hot or not much.

And the Hvac system. Total garbage. I'm willing to forgive a lot, and really love my Grenadier. I don't mind the weird steering, don't mind the beeps and boops, really am happy to live with the other weirdness, but this thing with the heating/ac is inexcusable.

But, I'm still in love. :)

Best of luck!

The car starts and runs fine, even drives OK when moving back and forth of the driveway. No evidence of battery issues, but not load tested of course, but would be stunned if both batteries have died. I understand they are wired in parallel? Possibly a loose connection somewhere, but as you say, where, and how to locate the various CANBUS connections. Under warranty and a dealer issue.

I am close, not quite there yet, to cutting my losses and trading it for a Lexus or a new Land Cruiser. Toyota man for years so hard to deal with unreliability and all the finicky issues. Seems they copied Land Rover in everything. Ability and quality :cautious:

Have you tried holding the mute button for about 30 seconds until the entire display goes dark?
That is the reset function.
Be aware it tries to trick you after about 15 seconds and only half the screen goes dark.
Don 't fall for it. Hold out for the full reset

Find an independent mechanic with a solid foundation in 4x4 vehicles and especially land rovers. There are a handful of individuals who where hoping to service the "G"s . They have a greater interest in problems (but not the computer diagnostics nor maintenance manual) and may be able to help you if your dealership is flapping like a fish out of water.
You can DM me if you would like.
Cheers!

Is that just the infotainment or the entire CANBUS/ECU etc?

I have notified Sewell. They come and collect the car and leave a loaner so their service is good. Whether their deeper understanding of the underlying issues are matured is TBC. They did ultimately solve the leaking floor leaks, with glue
