Turn the high beam headlights on an off - with your foot. At least that is what it did in another brand of car my father owned. In the time before weapons grade steering column stalks.

Remember them well for the headlight dipper in lots of cars. The Army Studebaker trucks had the same switch under the clutch pedal so you had to push the clutch pedal to the floor to activate the starter motor.
The Series 1 Landy had a dip switch near the horn button.

I suppose the modern version is to have the foot brake depressed to start the car.
