Hmmm...actually two wires are required ... one for the brake signal from the brake-light wire to the controller, and a second one from the controller to provide decent amperage to the electromagnets in the trailer brakes....

Am no expert: However I acquired some indelible "life skills" during several years of vacation employment in an electronics lab at CSIRO almost 60 yrs ago!
