AUSTRALIA: new standard for lithium batteries coming

I followed some of those links in the above 12 Volt Guru articles. Australian Design Rule (ADR) 21.7 states:

ADR 21.6 was also an interesting read:

Does that mean there needs to be an earth wire between the car/truck and caravan/trailer independent of the trailer plug?

Take a look at this article from BMPro (12 Volt Guru), its application maybe even broader than quoted above (like fuses on solar panels, inverters, RCD, etc). We do need to know what Recreational Vehicle means, as the standard applies to them (pretty sure it does mean caravan, camper trailer and motor home - not sure how far beyond that).

An earlier article by the same 12 volt Guru states (in part):

As clear as mud.
My BIL is a sparky who specializes in these kind of RV fitouts. In his understanding it only applies to any vehicle/RV/van that your are going to “sleep in”.

And if you sleep in the car? Did he say anything?

Thanks, can you ask him what he thinks ADR 21.6 above means?

Fusing a solar panel or solar array
If Australian Standard applies to your car or caravan, you will need to fuse the solar panel up on the roof.

Renogy has simple solution for you to do that, an inline fuse with male and female MC4 plugs. There are two versions standard and waterproof. Check the fuse rating is appropriate for the solar panels you are using.

Affirmative! A separate earth wire is how I interpreted it.
(I've seen lazy types relying on the coupling-towball / safety chains as the earth return ... )

This is what PowerPaul Australia had to say about the new standards when I enquired about it in relation to lithium installation in a caravan.

In an earlier post I said: as clear as mud.

Interesting comment that going from AGM to Lithium batteries is a major upgrade under the Standard.

Interesting experience with under bonnet lithium. Not sure if that makes it not really applicable to an install in a Grenadier but I couldn't see the evidence that it was specifically an under bonnet heat related issue?
