BenTN submitted a new resource:

American Size Cup Holder - An overlay panel for adding larger cup/mug capacity to the stock console cupholder

This is a 3d-printable overlay that attaches on top of the stock console cup holder using the existing screw locations. It provides a secure space for a handled coffee mug on the LH side, and leaves access to the full-depth original cup holder on the RH side. It also includes a pen holder immediately in front of the center storage cubby. It allows clearance for fingers to easily reach the cubby latch release.

It does not require removing anything but the 4x cosmetic screws from the...

And so it starts.

Thanks for all the effort you put into this @BenTN and for your patience while we worked things out to make this resource section available for the benefit of everyone.

I am sure this collection will become a great resource for the forum over time. I know there are lots of talented and capable people in this group that will be able to improve the vehicle and build on each other's ideas. Can't wait to see what modifications we all come up with together.

Where can we grab the file? Looks really good. I’ll get my print bitch (my son) working on it.

I have posted an updated version (rev3) with large opening on both sides. I hope your wife approves.

Thanks for uploading the 3D print file for the American size cup holder BenTN! I just installed mine and I freaking love it. Game changer for sure so again, I thoroughly appreciate your efforts to help the rest of us out.

I thought it was worth sharing I found a site online (that I'd never heard of) called Xometry and took my chances with them. Reason I'm mentioning it is they are running a June promo where you get 50 bucks off an order over basically 50 bucks. I had found local Denver 3d printers quoting $130 for it. Xometry had a price for way less but you couldn't pick the color and with the June discount it cost me a total of $31 with free shipping. The free shipping option said it could take 3 weeks to ship and only took 3 days to ship out and 3 more to receive it. The color was light grey, which matches the upper interior so it looks pretty damn good.

I did check out the amazon options someone else mentioned but they just had a janky look and feel to them, and I couldn't beat the price of 31 bucks. Nuts. Happy to post pics if anyone wants them.

Cheers.

So glad that worked out well for you! I'd love to see pics of what you ended up with if it's not too much trouble.

Did you simply upload Ben's file? Got any picks? I need to get this done but can only print small stuff at work; none of the printers have large enough beds.

It was shockingly easy to do actually, and yes all I did was upload the file. And be sure to check the metric option when prompted on Xometry's site. Other than that it's super straightforward, took my chances with color and would have preferred black but it fits in fine with the lighter grey. Super easy to install too.

Hi Ben,

This is a great little setup. Have you investigated or looked into or found a solution for replacing the cupholder all together with larger openings? I had an issue on my 3rd Gen Tacoma and the OE cupholders would only fit 12 oz cans. Someone created a replacement that would hold as large as a nalgene bottle. Wasn't sure if anyone has explored this as an option yet? Pic below for reference.

I have looked into this option. If you remove the top cup holder panel from the console there is another layer just below it that extends the forward to create the structure that holds the entire console surface together. That structure has basically the same size opening as the top cup holder. So there isn't much to gain by removing top cup holder layer.

Extending down into that cavity also makes a 3d printed part a shape that does not lend itself to simple, economical, or material efficient printing.

Makes Sense. Appreciate the feedback. Haven't started taking things apart yet so appreciate those treading the path before me...
