I don’t know which sub-forum this should be in but this foum says “Steering” and that’s the closest I could find. I hope this isn’t a dumb question. If it is, just pretend it isn’t ;)

I’m petite and short — 5’4”. And I wish I could see a bit better, mostly through the rear view. I have the ladder and I understand the ladder and spare obscure the view no matter what. And I’m used to some of that bc of my 2 former Discos 1&2 and my LR3. In those cars I removed the rear seat head rests and that helps a bit.

In some other thread it was mentioned that it’s a good thing to make the driver seat higher. Why? Does that help with visibility or is that for something else? What about one of those wider rear view mirrors? Or something else…?

It might be something I just need to live with but thought I’d ask in case there’s something I’m not thinking of.

Maybe one of those camera mirrors from Wolf would suit?

I would definitely get a wolfbox. It was one of the first things I installed. Also eliminates blind spots pretty much as the camera angle is quite wide.

The wolfbox camera will help a lot. You do lose viewing via the rear view mirror.

Clip on wider mirrors work well for me, you can see the tailgaters. I basically have zero vision past the cargo barrier and what I've strapped to it, let alone the ladder and spare wheel.
Over time your senses adapt to poor direct rear vision. You can then drive large trailers and real trucks and vans with confidence 😀

Sitting as high as you can and if so having spacers added to go even higher has been spoken about on here, it gives you a better perspective, especially of the front end of the vehicle...seeing each corner helps so much for tight maneuvers, parking and off-road...also sitting higher changes where my left foot rests...I rarely use the footrest because the seat is almost right back (y)

Mostly this....

Moving the seat higher will improve the angle at which you view the rear view mirror, giving you a slight improvement in view. If you want to be able to see more from it, the WolfBox (or similar) is the way to go.

Depending on where you sit currently, moving the seat higher may improve being able to visualize each corner of the front fender (ahem, wing for our British members) which is immensely helpful for both parking and avoiding trees or rocks off road

I am 6’3” tall and I couldn’t see out the back very well either. I don’t actually think it matters all that much as the visibility in the side mirrors is great and the back up camera helps when backing up. I too think that the Wolfbox rear view might be what you are looking for. Keep the seat adjusted for reach to the steering wheel and pedals.
That’s my two cents on the subject.

Much of the discussion about sitting higher is specific to RHD markets, it can help reduce the impact of the rather large left footrest that some RHD users find annoying. In LHD markets this is less of an issue, so maybe just fit the Wolfbox to help with the rear vision (you could use a frou-frou cushion if you really want to gain a higher perspective).

The only dumb question is the one not asked. I would prefer having your issue than this one and being too tall!! 😉😎 yea I know, I offered no solution…🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

I’m so glad I asked — I’ve heard the Wolf Box mentioned before but didn’t actually know what it was! Going to look into that and the wider mirrors. And try out some seat adjustments. I learn so much here!

Tazzieman — we basically have the same G. Also, I think there’s a black Grenadier in the background of your picture. Don’t tell me you have to suffer through owning two?!

ShopKeep — TEN stars for using “frou frou”!! I’m so proud. And you made my day. 😁

Wolfbox is great. I'm 5:10" and it's a game changer. It's a digital rear view mirror.
Agree 100%. I don’t know of anyone who has purchased one and not found it useful and a great upgrade. Of course after I bought the g900 they then come out with a brand new “pro” model 2 months later. 🤷‍♂️

I too got a Wolfbox and I had it installed but my local car audio company here in Cottonwood for about $400. It is worth it as I am shorter too. I love it.
By the way, I had checked with Owl Works in Phoenix and they install them there so that may be the way to go for you in the valley.

Wolfbox has a pretty good 25% Black Friday sale going on

I’m not very tall either, but when I raise the headrests all the way up I find that a sight line towards the rear exists between the bottom of the headrest and top of the seatback.

I've found the SUMA convex mirrors Owl has available a nice upgrade. For me, the extra field of view makes a difference.
