Seems fairly inline (presuming notably higher labor rates in CA than the East coast), feel free to add it to this thread - https://www.theineosforum.com/threads/grenadier-servicing-price-usa.12416460/
...we were not there to destroy the vehicle. Sadly we were backed into which not only damaged the left front bumper but also took out the transfercase cooler and trim around the headlight. After speaking with the dealership late last week they have found a couple things. First the non-start was...
For the vehicles that have shaft failure. Has the oil and oil quality been checked in the transfercase and front diff. When the shafts have failures it would be a good idea to drain the oil in the t/case in a clean clear container for inspection and maybe a sample for analysis. Replace the...
Hi nmoeder, I would have it aligned as there is a possibility the alignment may be putting vibrations into the
suspension at higher speeds. Just one of many things to check.
DaBull
I’ve not done this on the Gren but it’s not a difficult task.
In this case I had a warning showing, was on the service interval and wanted to change out transfer/axle oils, all while keeping warranty.
Headed to Dilawri Ineos in Mississauga (Toronto) for the work.
Harneet, Shub, Ray and the...
Re your transfercase … I’ve informed my Agent of difficulties I’ve had disengaging low range (after long sessions of low range driving) but they haven’t mentioned any transfercase recalls.
Do you know if your recall was based on your VIN?
Sadly it seems these days with any new vehicle, electronically dumbed down or not, you need to carry a tech tool to reset error codes as much as you need a 10mm socket. 🤷♂️
Do we know if anyone has found a reliable aftermarket one for the grenny yet?
No, not intercoolers. One is a secondary cooling circuit for engine I believe and one is a transfercase cooler. I would be reluctant to remove at least the transfercase one as it was added during the testing phase because they has some issues with transfercase temps if I recall the story...
...Ranger, Amarok, Volve XC90, X5, VW Transporter are valid - none of these vehicles are live axled and in some cases don't even have a transfercase. None of these vehicles are as competent off road as the Grenadier and some aren't even four-wheel drives, they are SUV's.
The...
Sounds like the issues are getting sorted, which is fantastic news! Hope that your rig gets back on the road sooner rather than later. And hope the insurance covers that body damage.
Doing longer Autobahn high speed driving regularly. Always with a close eye on xfer case temp. It's easy to exceed 100°C if you're not careful. For myself I limit speed to a max of 90°C. Which is approximately max 140km/h during summer days.
I never exceeded the 115°C limit, didn't know there...
Had the same problem today. One day of ownership in, and the plastic clip popped out allowing the cable to drag on the prop shaft. Sounded horrible, like grinding coming from the transfercase.
Glad it wasn’t more serious.
3 zip ties and I’m back driving again, hope they hold.
...lights on dash and message in message center. Now in Limp Mode. I searched and didnt find anything. Looking undernearth, looks like transfercase has a small leak. It drives around 6 mph in limp mode, no noises. I guess Ill have it towed to the dealer. 2024 Trialmaster, 9500 miles, B58 Gas...
Engaged the neutral bolt in anticipation of a tow(more about that later. Anyway it looks like I engaged it without having the transfercase in neutral. Once I backed out and put everything back in the proper position, the gear box will not go into forward or reverse. I have gone back through the...
That's of course right, but that does not solve the problem: You can enlarge the distance between the diff or the xfer case and the CV joints to reduce the required length of the shaft, but at the penalty of further increasing the operating angle of the joints.
Take a piece of paper and draw it...
Bahaha. That’s why the whole carbon footprint thing is BS. They need to include Scope 3 emissions. Btw I think the transfercase is made in Mexico. Close enough.
Using a double cardan at the transfercase/box end requires aiming the differential pinion directly at the transfercase. This would require a "cut & turn" procedure for the front axle housing wherein the inner yokes (C or inner knuckle) are cut free, the pinion is rotated and aimed at the...
So the update I received yesterday was that the transfercase is leaking. They have reported it to Ineos Engineering at the mother ship to see how to proceed. Replace the whole thing, a gasket, or whatever. One thing that makes me nervous is that you guys all said this is not likely the transfer...
This makes me very happy. It seems, barring accident damage and a couple of new wheels the only negative was the crap state of roads and flying stones. Looking forward to the final debrief, and not all the speculation. If it does indeed turn out to be more or less how you have described, we have...
Tremec is the Mexico City based transfercase supplier. I didn’t know that they bought a portion of Borg-Warner’s transmission division. “TREMEC purchased BorgWarner’s North American manual transmission business sector in 1996”.

To solve the issue, I drilled a hole in the heat shield and used a quarter inch industrial wire tie to connect the cable to the heat shield. I've had it off-road since then, sorry for the dirt in the picture, and it's held fine. You might want to zoom in a little bit to see the black wire tie.
I noticed a fluid leak last night while installing skid plates. Fluid had collected on the cooler lines leading to/from the transfercase... Couldn't find fluid above the soft part of the line, leads me to believe a problem with the line itself?
Please see what @IslandFalconer said
Also please refer to @Trialmaster as well as the other responses.
Also, due to a “pin falling out” you had to have the entire transfercase shifter replaced.
TRANSFERCASE CABLES
I have a solution to properly secure my transfercase cables (issue identified by @Logsplitter). At this time it is not publicly available and it is not INEOS approved.
It is however a fine piece of engineering, made from aluminium and it does not rely on the tree style...
Are you sure about this? Not very likely on a newly designed transfercase as helical gears (angled teeth) have been used for ages, at least for the high range gearing.
Did you have this done at 12,000 miles? Are the differentials spec'd for servive at 12,000 miles? Should and must mean different things to me (said the guy that changed his oil at 800 miles after break in and will do it again at 2,500 miles).
...on lifted vehicles, is a redesign of the entire front axle so the pinion angle is much higher and pointing more directly at the transfercase output flange easing the angle of the entire front driveshaft. To do that will require more engineering work from Carraro and Magna and all sorts of...
Tom, that was my first thought - I imagine the latch positions are really pretty unrelated to the transfercase and rely on the cable or linkage to be appropriately adjusted. Hopefully not too much damage and it can be resolved.
I have had the transfercase replaced after the Agent said my number came up...not one bit of information on the problem...the service manager said that is the case with lots of recalls...he said you wait for the parts, replace and send the other back...it would then go back to the manufacturer...
The cable above the front shaft in the original picture has about 1 1/2 finger width clearance when the cable is secured next to the transfercase.
Use a 7mm cable tie and never have to worry about it.
In fact, use 7mm cable ties for everything important!
Hello All,
Well I’m at my mechanic with a task list of items today along with check for leaking transfercase and unfortunately I’ve joined the Club. So question at hand for the moment -
1. I found the fluids reference sheet under resources but no official brand listed - anyone know the brand...
This transfercase leak is becoming more common. I’m curious why only North American vehicles are beginning to see this issue while I haven’t seen reports of this out of Europe/aus/nz in 2023.
Do tell where you got them please!
I'm thinking this issue could be initiated by a low /dry fluid level in the transfercase? My front seal is being replaced at the moment. My independent mechanic identified the issue and I had ~5k miles with 99.9% on asphalt. Poor quality manufacturing in my...
Obviously my service centre didn't wait then. The module was corrupted, and I'm still waiting. Hopefully this afternoon. A new transfercase too apparently.
There's one on the Black Sheep Swiss site under the 'Rival' brand. https://blacksheep-innovations.shop/en/Rival-4x4-Skid-Plate-Set-aluminum-6mm-for-engine-gearbox-transfer-case-and-fuel-pump-for-the-Ineos-Grenadier/2333.4501.1.6
On the Rival webpage there is not much info...
Agree, putting the transfercase into neutral would seem to be the logical way to go, I suppose it depends why you want to be in "neutral", presumably the gearbox has this facility when used in other vehicle applications.
It is VIN model specific to early vehicles.
The reason is the tolerances inside the transfercase were initially too tight and COULD result in mechanical failure if operating for extended periods of time in low range.
To date I have experience no issues, but its on the list and they would not...
Locking rear/front diffs when stationary is good advice for a first time user. Once you get used to the procedure, it’s OK to engage them when moving very slowly (up to 15km/h with no spinning wheels) as long as you’re in low range with centre diff locked, and on a low traction surface. 🙂
I also had a front output shaft leak on the transfercase. Was only down for 1 week waiting for the seal, so hopefully this is a good sign that parts are becoming available more quickly
I just had all the same done to mine (minus the transmission leak - which I thought I had, but turns out it was just residual oil dripping down from the previous oil change I had done at 6000 miles). All is well now. Fingers crossed they'll have yours fixed-up and good to go again soon.
this is the work done years ago on my defender with 2 axels, gearbox and transfercase.
I would like to do the same work on my grenadier.
in addition to the two axels, can you also intercept gearbox and transfercase? do these always have 10x1.0 connections like axles?
What diameter do you...
I had this issue and reported it to dealer when in for transfercase replacement last year so they should be aware of the issue that's if dealers are sending customer reports back to the mothership .
I am surprised that you have now ordered a Grenadier and that it is affected by a recall regarding the transfercase. As far as I know, all gearboxes currently being delivered are OK. Only for the first deliveries INEOS wants to make sure that there is no damage and is replacing the gearboxes as...
...related, if you feel it throughout the vehicle. The drive shaft balance is one item that could cause this, but you also have the transfercase and differentials. Since you have ruled out the tires I think you likely need to focus on the drivetrain. Now - getting to the actual root of the...
There are upper and lower control arms on the axle. If they don't follow the same radius the pinion may point slightly upward during droop. We are also assuming the angles into the tcase and diff are exactly the same, like one would want on a simple ujoint axle. It's cv's so there are no forces...
...high load the normal engine oil temp is ~90...95.
I like to know what's going on. But I've heard of other mindsets ;-)
Regarding the transfercase, I actually did expect it to be more efficient than e.g. that of the Defender TD5. After Autobahn drive with my TD5 (235/85/16) at 120-130 at a...
The bigger the tube the better basically however 6mm is the most common size, if you can find a kit and breather fittings that take 8mm then all the better. Mine are 6mm. I haven’t done the investigation myself but others have said thet there aren’t Transfercase or transmission breathers.
...nickel anti-sieze compound. It had some road gravel mixed in to make it look very much like a cracked casting. It's also visible on the transfercase oil cooler pipes if you squint a bit.
That shaft was removed and installed when the transfercase was swapped out in my first week of...
I have just ordered mine (albeit off the stock in the lot) and now being told that they are waiting for parts for a recall on the transfercase (amongst other things). Whats the normal turnaround for replacement parts?
I should add - my experience to date has been horrendous.
ok, but in that case isn't it better to free the transfercase by switching it to "neutral"?
on the other hand it is the last component of the transmission therefore the gearbox would also be disconnected
Hi @Outlander ive just had the same problem when the rear Cardan joint in the front prop shaft snapped but unfortunately this caused the prop shaft to smash into the gearbox causing untold damage to the gearbox and loss of transmission oil.
Edit this one. Gearbox OK but damaged oil cooler lines...
...boat. Not used any of the diff locks yet. Some low range work maneuvering trailer.
Started to hear a whine from low down. Probably transfercase or diffs as it is road speed related. Sound is like high speed gear meshing (sounds like a screw compressor to me). Started very faint and...
Yes, they unlock after you have pressed the switch. The time until the LEDs go out is not fixed. As soon as you drive over 50 km/h or driving curves, the sensors react and switch off.
...to low range. Can lock the centre diff but can’t move back to low range. Agent confirmed a mechanical fault and they have replaced the transfercase, but they warned me that about 50:50 when they have to try and remove the old transfercase the cable is so tight that it snaps while they are...
Actually it might be that it is a gear driven transfercase that causes the noise. I thought i read somewhere it was straight cut gears but might have got that confused with gear driven for some reason.
