The dual colour also has the added benefit of a on/off touch switch on the front of the light which is really handy if you want to add a second light into the circuit and be able to switch them independently. Also means you don’t have to go inside the car to switch it off. Worth it over the standard version if you can find a source to buy it. Here is the Micro Touch Dual Colour mounted on the side.
Here are pics of the wire run. It would not be that hard to run it internally and exit near the roof socket, might try that at another time.

Figured I would post an update now that I've finished this little project. Nothing fancy, but works for what I will use it for (until I inevitably fall into the trap of buying a rooftop tent...A DIY sleeping platform/storage solution ive been slowly working on over the past few weeks. Not finished yet, but coming along nicely, especially for not knowing much about woodworking before attempting this
