So really if i chase the postive terminal post from the bonnet back to the busbar at the battery, Connect my charger termination plug lead thing (ctek provide with their smart chargers) to this, and the negative lead of the plug to the negative body connection next to the start battery, I'll be right and have easier access rather than popping bonnet. Just flick open rear passenger door instead.
I connected my battery charger ring terminal quick connect cable to one of the free positive studs next to the + jump start post under the hood and the neg to the ground stud on the rad support just in front of it. I then ran the cable and quick connect plug through a gap next to the top of the radiator in to the front grill area. I then cable tied it to the radiator plastic mesh screen with enough of a tail that I can fish it out with my fingers. It tucks nicely behind a void on the USA passenger side of the front grill when not in use and it is out of sight. When I need to charge I just use my index finger to fish it out and plug in. When done I just push back behind the grill so it is out of sight again. This way I do not have to have the hood open or any doors or windows open to charge my batteries. I work from home so my vehicle can sit for days, so I always have it plugged in to a noco charger and this setup makes connecting to my charger quick and easy. I like this setup also for camping with shore power, I can just bring my 10amp water resistant noco charger and plug in to shore power while my vehicle is totally sealed to the rain or bugs. One tip that I recommend is to leave a big note on your drivers seat, to remind you that your charger is connect, so you do not drive off while connected. On a side note, keeping my battery on a battery charger when not in daily use, has prolonged my battery life by large factor. I got more than 10years out of my starter battery on my previous vehicles using this approach. Batteries are not cheap these days.

Did you mean to write “…battery charger ring terminal…” vice: “…charger battery ring terminal…”?

I’ve noticed a boost in current prior to a dpf burn too to increase soc. I assume it’s in case the fans have to run after shut off. Mine was just charging at up at to 28A at 95% SOC prior to a burn. Have seen it enough times to notice.

Just had mine updated and it’s improved much more and similar to what you have just described. You must have one of the newer models.

Basically mine (May 2023) didn't have stop/start from new because the factory forgot the trailer module (I have no tow bar, but it’s still necessary, I believe a few vins are in the same boat as me). Got trailer module fitted last week and it was explained to me
that I have now got the latest software for the module (new).

The stop/start activates quickly and doesn’t cut out too quick and battery charges right upto 100%. I say that’s a result.

So for those who have battery charging issues, there is a new fix coming and I think it’s related between the stop/start and trailer module software.
Very interested to read your post. I think I'm in the same boat as you with a same 2023 model. I had the exact same issue with the stop/start, which was fixed, but was also told that my trailer module should be in there.

Any info on who you spoke to about getting the module fixed? Ineos are saying that my car wasn't specced with a trailer module, but it does have a tow ball.

Also have battery charging issues, SoC down at 65% during long drives, with a pitiful 1-2amps recharge, and this was after my stop/start was fixed.

I believe the trailer module should have been installed whether you got the tow ball or not. I don’t have a tow ball. The trailer module is obviously for the trailer electrics but it also controls the stop/start and the battery SOC. It’s all connected via the BCM.

Dealer told me some earlier Grenadiers had missing trailer module from the factory, they have the vin numbers but failed to reach out to us and retro fit.

Subsequently, my stop/start never worked. Went back to the dealer at least four times. First said my battery was low and the conditions wasn’t met. So second time, they charged my battery overnight and it still didn’t work. Did a test on the battery to check condition and drain, was ok so they wouldn’t replace the battery. Third time after Ineos tech was involved, Ineos told the dealer maybe a missing trailer module. A trailer module was then fitted but dealer couldn’t program it. Fourth visit, I had the another trailer module fitted (newer version apparently) and Ineos finally remote program it after receiving new software and reset the system.

Since this fix, my battery charges fast, stop/start reacts quickly and doesn’t cut out straight away. Now everything is perfect.

I have a similar SOC and 1 amp or flashing discharge on a long journey with normal condition around 60 and red warning. I did not have a stop start issue if the battery is manually charged to above 70 to give a very temporary boost in power. I had a factory optioned towball or towpack.

Do you know where the trailer module is fitted and the part number please. I have SOC issues uresolved after 4 visits, battery changes etc.

It’s fitted behind the right hand side, rear panel in the boot. Part number I’m not sure unless I take the panel off.

By the way, I never had a discharge like you have mentioned. Only when auto stop/start kicks in and displays discharge when stopped.

Many thanks. The flashing discharge is very odd and does not happen all of the time. It was happending when the SOC was at 70% after a manual charge and the indicated charging currrent was 1 amp between flashing discharges. With the battery at the "normal" 60% SOC, I have a 5-8 amp charge reducing to 1-2 amp as the SOC gets to 63/64%. I have an 8amp discharge showing when the car is stopped but with minimum electrical usage due to the system being awake and the daytime lights being on etc. I also assume that the 1amp indicated is over and above the 8 amps (background discharge or usage) required to run the system or the battery would discharge even quicker.

I was not aware that the trailer module could affect the SOC and was not aware that a newer version was available. I assume that the older trailer module had some issue that required an upgraded/replacement, other than the inability to be programmed. Perhaps my trailer module is faulty.

Might worth asking. I think your trailer module just needs calibrating as the actual and what’s indicating on the screen doesn’t match.

Is this the module, under the small hatch on the RHS near the big rear door? I agree calibration might be a problem. Without knowing exactly how and why the modules and SOC interact it is hard to say. However a replacement and/or recalibration seems to have helped you. I wonder how it becomes uncalibrated and how easily/often this can occur.

I don’t think this is the module. Mines exactly the same but If you goto the same hole and point your phone camera to the left inside there is another module which may be the one. Take a look at the number 1967 which may possibly coincide with the software update 1967 on the head unit.

Ok. Many thanks. The same part number but a later date.

The Part Number PA66-GF15 is a relay - would this be a relay for the lights and also towbar electrics?
Looking at my zoomed picture the number etched into the plastic at the top right of the unit is PA-66 GF13 rather than 5. I will try to get a better picture tomorrow.

The PA-nn GFnn coding is cast into the housing of many electrical components fitted to the Grenadier. It's a material specification for the component housing not a component part number.

PA is Polyamide
66 is 66% Nylon
GF is Glass Fibre reinforced
15 or 13 is the percentage of Glass Fibre reinforcement in the material.

Example for anyone still reading

Thanks for clarifying, didn't know this and makes sense.

Nylon is a trade Name of Polyamid, 66 indicates the quality of the polyamid and means it is PA 6.6 (in contrast to PA 6). So we have 87% Polyamid 6.6 here.
