Any recommendations for a Scottish Grenadier road trip at Easter?

I’m planning to go to Scotland for a road trip with my girlfriend at easter and was wondering if some locals here in the forum could give me some advise for a few exceptional roads to drive, places/landscapes to visit or to stay (Hotels, Inns, Pubs with rooms).

We`re planning to start at the ferry port at Newcastle, staying for two nights at Edinburg, going further via St. Andrews area to Cairngorns National Park probably at around Ballater for some two-day-road-adventures from there. After that heading direction nothwest to Inverness/Fort Augustus. After that we plan to stay 2 more days direction Isle of Skye, turning back via area north of Glasgow to Newcastle for the ferry to return to Rotterdam/Germany

Any help in finding some good spots would be very very welcome. Wanted to go to Scotland for years and now it seems to happen! Really looking forward going there especially with the Grenadier Thanks for your tips in advance!

Devils Pulpit, North of Glasgow, close to Craighat. The rest is up to you.

Try and stay off the main roads as much as you can.
Looking at your route follow the coast road to St Andrews through Elie, Pittenweem, Crail etc to St Andrews.

After that head for Ballater as per the route below.


After that depends on what you like doing, head towards Speyside or onwards to Inverness.

On Skye if you’re going to Uig don’t miss the Fairy Glen ( tourist name), a series of small hills, mysterious place.


Neist Point gives good views over the Minch (sea) on a clear day !



And the Quiraing, you can take the road from Uig but you would probably want to go round the north of the island and take the road between Digg and Stencholl.
The internet will list all the usual places to visit on Skye.

Just be aware that Scotland will just be opening up following the winter so some places may not be open with Easter being early this year.

No matter where you go you’ll have a great time, all the best for your trip.

I would add, for peace of mind when your fuel tank gets half full, take the opportunity when passing a service station - top up. As we Scots say "splash and dash" strategy.

Just one road you must not miss… From Applecross on the west coast, take the road up over the top to rejoin the A896 at Tornapress. Stunning drive. My two uploaded screenshots are for the two ‘ends’ of the drive.
The Applecross Inn is also recommended for good food etc.

A most do, avoid peak times though, meeting other cars spoils the drive somewhat. Unless they have made road improvements since my last pass.

What a great trip and thanks again for the advise. We made it at least to the ApplecrossPass and it was more than lovely, Isle of Skye was to far to do it in 11 days including 2x ferry Amsterdam/Newcastle. But we had really great days in Scotland with more than welcoming people, great pubs, too much food and drinks, a visit at the only INEOS dealer in Scotland (due to the beloved software hoaxes). We went 1.800 km through the county to Edinburgh, Ptilochry, Loch Lochy and CraobhHaven with additional daytrips to St Andrews, Balmoral, Applecross, Oban and Isle of Luing.
Definitely fell in love with the country, we'll be back!!!
