What result would the Ineos Grenadier achieve in the Euro NCAP or Global NCAP tests?

Hello! I'm interested in buying an Ineos Grenadier, however first I would like to know how safe it is.

Does anyone know if the Grenadier will be tested by an entity like Euro NCAP or Global NCAP?

For example, the Land Rover Defender is a very solid, stiff and safe vehicle, I would like to know if the Grenadier is at this level.

Thank you very much and great miles with your Ineos Grenadier which is a fabulous off-road vehicle!

Best regards.

That's not the way to test a vehicle, although it is an impressive video. Glad to see the occupants were not heavily insured.
I happen to own a new 2020 Defender and feel safer knowing it could withstand those forces. Having test drove the Grenadier and seeing in person the heavy duty build quality, I feel it would also be a very safe vehicle. DaBull

When I see that the Jeep Wrangler had only 1 star rating, I hope that the Grenadier is much better!

I think these tests are quite complex and don’t just reflect occupant safety. They are not reflective of real world performance. For example a 1 star wrangler being T boned by a 5 star supermini is not the same accident as the 5 star supermini being T boned by the wrangler.
The height makes a massive difference in that the chassis level of the wrangler will be at the hip level or higher of the occupants of the supermini. Whereas if the supermini hits the side of the wrangler most of the impact is below the occupants of the wrangler.

In a front on smash Newtonian physics says that the heavier vehicle will experience a less violent deceleration than the lighter one.
In the NCAP tests however the vehicles are crashed into stationary objects and the height of the object is adjusted according to the vehicle height. This is particularly apparent in the side impact tests. So a 4x4 is hit at a higher height than a lower car. This makes like for like comparisons difficult.

The Grenadier may protect its occupants but I am quite sure so called vulnerable road users such as cyclists and bike users may not have fun or other road users either when impacted by a Grenadier.
These people need to save their money and buy a car.
It's so sad that some grown ups are still reduced to riding childrens toys around.
It is great that they have advanced from scooters but when i see these adults still riding bikes I almost feel like stopping and giving them some coins from my pocket.

Exactly. This is the same for the Wrangler., its rather unlikely that a Wrangler, G crashes in a likewise vehicle. Eg from past The mitsubishi Pajero was rather seldom invoked in crash. snd if so then the opponent vehicle was ready for scrap. Normal on road car

This is why the Europeans get a larger plastic bumper

There is no plan to test it and unlikely to be tested in the near future. However without the advanced accident avoidance tech like AWB and lane keep assist etc it can never get 5 star. And I suspect it won’t do wonderfully on the pedestrian safety stuff either so 4 is the best it could hope for and even 3 likely, assuming crash testing and occupant safety does well.

It's a 3-3.5 tonne light truck.
But if you get headed by a bus, concrete truck or heaven forbid a road train, physics will likely take you to a predictable place.
You won't get a different outcome in a 5 star safety rated vehicle.

For a very brief period there was a few frames of a Grenadier crash test on YouTube, but it has vanished. When Ineos staff spoke, they said it was massively more crash worthy than a classic Defender, but no one expects it to be EuroNCAPed as it is a low volumn vehicle and Ineos Automotive will not sponsor the tests.

Other than that, we only have bland assurances and nothing to hang a hat on.

I’m always amused by this.
An impact effect to a pedestrian at 40-60km in a Euro spec versus a Australian spec I would suggest would lead to an identical outcome.

I’d wonder if the result would vary at 20km. Somehow I doubt it.

Particularly when it is only missing the bullshit safety systems like lane keep assist.
If you can't keep your vehicle in a lane then you need to pull over and rest or get some driving lessons.
Looking at it the first categories it should get full points the second two not so good
Interesting how low the rating is for head impact with a cyclist.
I have a speed assist system in every vehicle I drive..............................when my wife is in the passenger seat.

That's why I got the roo bar, checkerplates and side bars.
If I hit a pedestrian I don't want them to hit the grill, bonnet or front quarter panels and hurt themselves

ANCAP in Australia is crash testing and lobby group that encourages the government to change regulations. They only changed criteria for the ratings a year ago to include all the electronic safety devices as part of the requirements to meet a five star rating. Most five star cars from previous years ANCAP ratings would not meet todays five star requirements. ANCAP testing generally only tests the vehicle as sold with no bullbars and side steps.

These are the only vehicles that have applied for ANCAP rating and not achieved 5 star
Interesting the only 70 series to get a rating is the 2 door single cap ute

The LC79 single cab is the only 70 series that got an ANCAP rating. 2016/17 the 79 had changes to the chassis, cab, front radius arms, brake system and extra airbags to to meet ANCAP and the demands of large miners and other large companies who prefer the 79 over other cab chassis . The 79 is the biggest seller of the 70 series in Australia. The 78 and 76 series also had chassis changes but did not have enough other safety features added to meet ANCAP 5. The ANCAP and ADR, Australian Design Rules have changed again this year so the upgraded 70 also gets a whole lot of new safety features.

It's ironic that ANCAP doesn't rate the wally behind the wheel.
Driving with one hand at 6 o'clock on corrugated roads, you know who you are ;)
