*Originally posted in the "Let's Get Together" thread, now creating a separate thread / also posted on the SCIC FB page.*

** 12/16/2024 UPDATE: We have 7 vehicles saying they want to go. The trip is still 3 months away and life may get in the way for some of those on the list... at this time if you are interested I will add you to a waiting list to fill spots that may open up. **

My wife and I are working on a plan to do the Mojave Road March 21-23, 2025. While this was initially going to be a solo adventure… we’ve decided to open it up to SCIC members. It is, however, not a “club event”.

If there are other members of SCIC that would like to join us, let me know. There is a lot of history on the Mojave Rd and it will be an easy going, family friendly, self supported camping trip. If you’ve never done it before or are new to remote vehicle camping, feel free to ask questions.

Because permits are required if there are more than 7 vehicles… I’m going to limit the group to 7 vehicles (including me).

So far on the list:
Me
Arbi Karapetian
Nadir Elfarra
Burrero
Peter Matusov
Tony Herrera
WanderingSniper

Standby List:
MrWiggles

WanderingSniper asked about the route. There is some information on the link in my post (Mojave Rd).

Mojave Rd can be accessed (or left) from many places... many people do shorter sections rather than the entire thing in one shot. Traditionally it is done east to west, starting near Bullhead City, AZ and ending near Barstow, CA. Weather and road conditions can add some nuances.

Sounds like a great trip! I love that trail and have done it a few times in various vehicles. I am still bummed they filled in the water crossing. The last time I went through it before it was filled, the water was over the hood of my lifted 100 Series LC.

Afton Canyon is another great part of the trip.

We could always just happen to be on the trail at the same time and coincidentally camp nearby. ;) Out of all of the times I have ran that trail I have yet to see a ranger or any other form of law enforcement.

Of course I can't stop someone from camping somewhere. Because I am inviting people onto the trip, I would appreciate that those not on the invite list do their best to not "coincidentally" camp with nor drive with us as the limit (set by the Preserve) is 7 vehicles. If you have questions or want to discuss further, feel free to send me a DM.

It was more of a joke. I wouldn't want to impede on someones planned trip.

The last time I ran it. We were contacted by two law enforcement officers working for the park. Separate vehicles (Tahoe). They came at us from two different directions. While we were feeding the kids lunch, middle of the day.
They talked to me (I was the group leader, 7 trucks and one person decided to invite a friend, so with the friend, totaling 8). They wanted to ticket me for not having a permit since more that 7 requires it. I said this 8th person wasn’t in my group and they tagged along when we got started. They went over and talked to them. I don’t know what happened.
It was very odd and not pleasant. Especially since we had a bunch of kids in the group. Not sure what they thought we were doing.
