Having been a happy Wolfbox user, when towing our trailer I decided it would be handy to be able to see the rear view from the back of the trailer itself rather than just from the back of the Grenadier. So I bought a second camera and worked out how to switch between them.

The normal rear view camera lives on the inside of the rear door, pretty central.

The cable runs through the door and into the right hand side of the boot space, in the style of those of us who haven’t successfully navigated the rubber conduit at the bottom of the door. So far so predictable.

I then ran another cable through the unused nato socket space, using a handy hole in the towball assembly for connecting to the trailer camera.

Like so. Very satisfying.

The second camera then lives on the back of the trailer like so, with the end running under the trailer to the towing hook as above.

Both cables (the one for the normal camera and the one for the trailer camera) terminate in the handy pull-off-lidded box in the boot, and I cable tied to the inside of the box, allowing for an easy manual switch-over from one camera to the other when the trailer is hooked up.

Really pleased with this. Switching across is pretty quick and easy too. I might chop the ends off the cables (or more likely buy some sacrificial short ones) and add a switch / relay to make the changeover process less manual. It’s such a rare occurrence that I’ll probably leave it like this though.

Bonus shot: here’s the camera lead that now lives in the 13-pin cable snake. Will it corrode? Will I replace it with a 4 pin waterproof pluggable aviation cable? Stay tuned over the next couple of years.

Good job, buddy.

That is definitely a great modification, and arguably more important when pulling a trailer than without. Nice work.

I would love one of these but still unsure around pulling everything apart to fit the damn thing.

Where did you order the 2nd camera & what did it cost? I can't seem to find that option on the WWW. Assuming you needed to call for it? Thanks!

What a great idea. Have been toying with what camera set up to use, as I don't want a seperate screen. How long is the cable from the inside camera to the junction?

Nice simple modification.

Incidentally, you can buy a camera switcher with a remote that will allow you to switch between up to 4 cameras. Not expensive and it might be useful to have a couple of cameras on the trailer.

Do you know where what model switcher this g900 pro needs?

Actually no. I've used them before with the RCA connectors (those yellow plugs), but I've not seen a switcher with those small CVBS 4 pin connectors that Wolfbox and many others use.
I guess you use 4 pin CVBS adaptors to RCA in conjunction with a splitter.

Anyone tried this?

@bakepl DIY'd a manual 2nd rear camera switch and generously provided a write-up here.
In Australia I have these guys on my call list to see if they can work with the cable plugs that Wolfbox use to be able to adapt one of their 2 or 4 way camera switches.

It would be nice to see @WolfBox step up here with a mirror system that provides an additional (3rd) camera input for either a rear trailer camera or a forward facing terrain camera. Extend the existing swipe, tilt and zoom actions for a 3rd camera if detected, and provide a user menu option to display either the standard rear camera or the 3rd camera when reverse gear is selected (if the red wire is connected). User input is necessary in case the third camera is fitted as a front terrain camera in which case it should not activate with reverse gear.
Package an off-road/RV kit with the extra camera and cables, including a quick disconnect cable (a.k.a a Suzie cable) for the tow hitch. Take my money.

on an aside.... there are vacant pin slots in the euro 13 socket to accommodate the +, - and video wires of the additional trailer camera, thus no need for any camera wires external to the 13 socket. Just need to source the pins, info here somewhere.... (I grabbed hold of a euro socket removed from an Ineos and repurposed the pins)
