Spare Wheel Cover

So some photos are in various other threads but I thought it worth drawing info on the one topic into it's own thread.

My answers are for the UK specification vehicles.

Standard vehicles get no spare wheel cover and so look like this:

For me I think the lockable spare wheel box is simply to expensive. I will probably use a soft cover and use the inside for emergency spares and safety gear packed in some water and dust proof bags tied in with octopus straps or similar.

My problem with soft covers is always stretching the inner elasticated ring over the tread. When new it can be a right struggle and when old, the elastic gives up the ghost and makes the cover insecure.

The best thing is not to use a cover. This way, no moisture remains under the cover and the wheel always dries well. I have therefore never had corrosion.
