Hello,
Show me your heroes.

From left to right, grandfather, mother, grandmother and aunt travelling around Lebanon. Date is approx 1953. My grandfather liked to travel from Switzerland to various countries in nord of Africa like Lebanon, Syria, and guess what? Up to Indochina with it's Studebacker sedan. Punctures were frequent, as were breakdowns. No roof tents, but luxury hotels and fine found at every stop. They were carrying more clothes as spares parts, the Swiss way of visiting the world I guess.

This thread is a little slow so far? Shame really. So. Two more of my heroes:

Any dissenters? Sir Lewis - the finest F1 driver ever; and Sir Jim - without whom I'd still be chucking money at my Defender ;)
Not a Max fan then 🤣
How about Borris, Farage or Starmer for a bit of hero worship, just putting it out there as a suggestion???

OOOhhh... Politics! Politics and Religion. two subjects that can cause a fire storm! I can relate to two out of the three.... :ROFLMAO: 😆

Actually my F1 driver of choice at the moment has to be Lando Norris, and maybe George Russell as No.2. But you can't take away the huge impact, and indeed success, Lewis has had on the sport.

So come on, come clean, who's your hero?

Lewis Hamilton lost the plot ( and started going down hill) when he went " black lives matter" and had the silver arrows painted black. Not saying anything about there being an issue with the " black lives matter movement " I support 👏 the movement. I just say LH should have butt out and have kept focused on F1. That's when I stopped watching F1.

Once again, politics and religion need to be parked at the door, there's no place for it in F1; Lewis, I think, should have left his politics in the carpark ;)

This season is looking good so far. No Max focused show, no Lewis focused show - just three races and three different winners. (y)

So - name your hero! Sport, history, family, media, music, science, education, art, politics even if you have to :)

Greatly respect Lewis as one of the top F1 drivers, I even had a tour of the Factory at Brackley back in 2014, Lewis passed us on the corridor. Felt sick when he was 'robbed' of his last chance of a world title, it kind of jaded me a bit. I think his veganism isn't helping and he is also getting old. I never think it is possible to compare 1 driver to another when it's different eras. Firstly, they are bread to be F1 champions from birth, ie Max, whereas Moss, Fangio were wealthy individuals who wanted to take high stake risks that most nowadays would not. As with most sports the development of the human body has improved. There is natural talent of which I believe Lewis has plenty and then there others who have to work at it.
I am not a person who has heroes, I find it very difficult to say that of someone who is half my age, I do like Lando and George but I don't think either are ruthless enough to beat Max if he is on a similar level of vehicle performance.

Now don't get me started on politics, please, just don't.

I loved the idea of this thread - all power to 'grandsons' for starting it.... does no-one else have a hero they can admit to?

......rude comment about being too self centred not included 😆:devilish::)

If I had to pick a person that can make me, laugh out loud with tears, want to hide, gringe, emotionally drain me, think is brilliant, want to meet and make me question why he could be a hero, it would be Ricky Gervais :ROFLMAO:

See my signature. Answers both the thread subject and the F1 digression. (although Lewis is my driver now) View attachment 7891924
Wow! That's one I'd love to get to. I've been to Silverstone for the British GP twice (did help that I had a mate who was a marshall - he gets a couple of comp. tickets, including a carpark pass that gets as close in as is possible. (y) ;))

This is turning into an F1 thread.... but if Sir Lewis is your current hero, then it must count - a hero and a car. He lived about 8 miles from where I used to live. (Senna was fantastic - but I can't claim to have been a fan - I rooted for Nigel Mansell!)

Silverstone is one of my favorite races to attend for sure!

we went every year until the new engines, that was the last time we went.
Sat in the B&B in Silverstone we used to stay at and a couple next to us were talking about the amazing sound of the F2 cars and not discussing the F1, a very sad day

Lewis Hamilton doesn't learn, I see he is at it again. In a photo shoot for Ferrari with a F40, he wanted the F40 to be black to highlight discrimination. Ferrari declined using a red F40. I'm afraid his F1 days will soon be over.
