Replace silver checker plate pop rivets

Does anyone know if you can easily replace the silver pop rivets for black? I have the black aluminium rivets however I assume the back will drop off into the guard once drilled out and I’m not sure how to retrieve them without removing the guard? Has anyone done this easily?

I know it's a myth, but yet another reminder that you don't always need a complicated solution!
