I’m fighting a standard 7 foot garage, might actually be an inch or two lower. Now on 285/70R17 KO3s. I’d like a 270 degree awning, but it seems that they add a few inches that I can’t afford. We have three cars and two garage spots, but I’d like to keep my IG in garage, at least in the winter.

Are there any 270 awnings that would work, or do you need the extra height to keep it high enough to be usable? If so, are any pretty easy to remove seasonally?

CLEVERSHADE is one of the lightest 270 degrees awnings and should work with racksbraxs.

EDIT: the CLEVERSHADE migth nopt work becuase of the bracket they use to attach it.

I do not have US options but the Australian list may give you a starting point for awnings.

AWNINGS
It appears most awnings can be fitted to rooftop bars and the pioneer platform, but check before you buy.
  1. INEOS offer the Bat Wing Side Awning as an option;
  2. Bukkwakka Awnings, I have not seen on fitted to as Grenadier yet;
  3. Clevershade Awning. The most suitable for the Grenadier is the 270 degree 4.0m model. The one I own and use. Also available at Black Sheep Innovations Australia here;
  4. BOSS Aluminum 270 Awning;
  5. DESTINATION4WD D180 and D270 awnings;
  6. BOAB Offroad Awnings. They also have an awning organiser here;
  7. Custom Steering Solutions 180 and 270 degree awnings here;
  8. 30 Second Wing Awning here;
  9. Darche Awning, recommendation here; and
  10. The Bush Company Awning, see it on a Grenadier here.

Which roof rack are you using? I remove my awning between uses. I use racksbrax mounts.

I actually started the post about a roof rack and awnings. I’m not sure that I can get a roof rack, though I do know that some of them are pretty low profile. Didn’t know if the low profile roof racks are as capable. Also, I’m just looking to do this for day trips to start out, so I don’t think I’ll need a roof rack for cargo, at least right now. I didn’t know if there were some awnings that attach on the grab handles.

I might must start out with a tarp and some 3D printed attachment points for the roof grab handles to at least get my use-case validated. Wife isn’t that outdoorsy, and definately not ‘sleep in a truck’, and I’m pretty busy, even on weekends for the next couple of years. Was looking mainly to experiment before we move to a bigger house (garage) or get a mountain house.

I have the Howling moon awning. It is attached with two L brackets, I have the same style of rack as in this video. There’s no reason why it couldn’t be under slung on the roof rack and so it would sit lower than the rack… the only issue would be: can you still open the doors? It depends on the height of the rack.. I think it would be close but it might just work. I’ll be re-fitting mine for the summer soon. I might offer it up with the brackets inverted and see if it fits..
