In December, after my first service the “Service Warning” stayed on (remaining distance was correct, 20000 km)! They told me at the dealer it was a software bug and couldn't reset it on "some cars". Still wondering if this is really true, or if they made a mistake while following the Ineos procedure.!

In the past months after that I succeeded 3 times “by accident” to disable my Service Warning (remaining kilometers).

Some days ago, I found the “pattern” to disable it, and today I tested it several times, to see if it was consistent, and it is!

Procedure to follow:
  1. When the message “Service in xxx km” pops-up: press the selection button on the left steering wheel lever.
  2. When your preselected setting pops up (for instance current economy) press again the selection button
  3. Wait till the Service Interval Warning pops-up again and press immediately again the selection button.
  4. Done! During the current drive no Service Interval Warnings anymore.
Should be done after each restart of the car.

The video explains the procedure.

I am curious to see if other Grenadier owners can reproduce my experiment, and confirm that this is indeed consistent. I have the software version “1946”.

[EDITED] PS: I did it at standstill, contact on, motor off, and also motor on at standstill, and also while driving. I could use the selection button without the Service Warning popping up again, while driving.

[EDITED] Much easier procedure in post number 30 in this thread

Thanks Jean

That’s one for the next Rok_Dr manual update. Pity you have to do it again every time you start the car tho.

Cheers

Spoke to dealer yesterday and kindly asked how to reset the service indicator. I asked was there a special sequence or a hidden button you can press. The answer is no. It’s done only by their diagnostic equipment and sometimes the dealers have to get Ineo to remote in to reset as every country has different timescales/mileage requirements.

Update to my post above:

I drove yesterday and the day before about 1400 km, mainly highways, some ordinary roads (Belgium, Germany, Austria, Hungary).

The temporary disabling procedure doesn't work in the next situations (unless there is another trick, but I didn't find it):
  • when the service interval reminder has been highlighted previously
  • when a preferred setting (like current economy) is already highlighted
  • when you have another warning (I had sometimes a low oil level warning, but didn't stay on)
  • when "my procedure" is interrupted by something else, like for instance Android Auto coming up.
I didn't find a way to rapidly un-highlight some warnings or setting. I always had to wait till I stopped the car for a longer period, for instance after fueling.

I am wondering since they can adjust the mileage and time interval, if it was possible for them to reset it to a lot longer time like (5 years) and longer mileage (100,000km) so that it would only need to be reset every 5 years. This would be a good interim work around for people doing their own maintenance or using alternate service shops. Obviously the onus would then be on you to keep track of your own service schedule (like the good old days).

They probably could. I think the obvious reason why they adopted this approach is they would have signed a contract with the Bosch network for x amount of years before it can be released. It’s still new and requires support from Bosch to do the programming and more importantly it’s a business.

My guess in year 5 when warranty drops off, they will eventually release it after Ineos have ironed out all the bugs in the software.

I was also told that if anyone alters the settings ie trying to chip the ECU, it will light up like a Christmas tree and the dealer would know on their diagnostic computer and possibly void warranty.

@Jean Mercier - I can confirm this method also works for tire pressure warnings!

Damm I though you were on to something. It looks like it only stays in hiding if you don't touch anything.

No, that's not what I say, unless I misunderstood your comment.
When I succeed in doing the right sequence of pushes as explained in my first post here, everything is fine. You can touch everything.

When for any reason some setting or step is different, then you get stuck.

Hi Jean

It more likely i misunderstood you. The way I read your comments was it stopped working when you made a setting change, but rereading your post that not correct.

Cheers
Steve

I executed this procedure when the tire pressure warning comes.
It works, but:
as soon as any tire "reports" an increasing tire pressure, the warning comes again. So repeating the procedure again and again and again... then i got tired doing this.
No permanent disabeling of the tire pressure warning during a ride. :(

You can always reset the tyre pressure during the ride, but when it cools down again you'll get a low pressure warning.
I have resolved myself to the fact I'm going to have separate winter and summer warnings. My tyres are set to 36 psi cold in a cold UK winter. The high temperatures in UK summer on a long run sees them at 41 - 42 psi
