My name is Antti and I'm originally from Finland but live now in the island of Tenerife. I have owned 4x4's since 1983 (40 years of offroading!) and never any 2WD. I started with a Toyota, then a Nissan, a Mitsubishi but 1992 I bought my first Land Rover: Range Rover -80 3D 3,5V8 carb. I still have it "slightly" modified :).

Since then I have had tens of Land Rovers and still have about 10 of those, 1 here in Tenerife, others in Finland.

I'm a naval architect and have worked 20 years in marine business but 2003 I founded a company dealing with Land Rover spares, service, repairs and off-road preparation. I retired August 2023. While I was working with Land Rovers replacement for Defender was always "coming soon". There was the surf version (probably based on Freelander 2) and when the New Defender was relaesed it was a huge disappointment. It is actually a Discovery 5 with different body and terrible amount of electronics. Beside it all recent Land Rover products no longer attract me.

When I heard of Ineos Grenadier I immediately thought "if I buy a new car, it will be an IG"! Currently I'm in the final steps of ordering one.

I have lots of pictures from events mostly arranged by me here:

A very warm welcome to you.
We are currently on a weeks holiday in Los Gigantes which is my first visit to Tenerife in 35 years. I would say this was the perfect place for a Grenadier.
Currently missing mine and looking forward to getting home and fitting my M&M seat covers. Sad I know. 😊
Tenerife, this time round has certainly impressed me.

My first holiday trip here was 2009. Since then yearly excluding only Covid years. And moving here became a plan about 5-6 years ago. I have now studied Spanish for four years and read and write it well. Speaking needs still improving but now I'm on this intensive training :)

Saludos

Forum is lacking a general technics section where this would fit better.

FAULT FINDING and PROBLEM SOLVING

When any questions on faults or problems are sent please note following.

1. Headline

Select correct section of forum.

Describe situation well, for example: "Petrol engine turns over but doesn't start", or "Weird electrical fault in windscreen wiper". Do noy use: "Problem", "Any idea?", or "What's wrong".

Avoid pointing to a component if not 100% sure that it is faulty (for example: "Diesel HP pump"). Instead describe symptoms and conditions where fault occurs, for axample: "Diesel - performance problem when max. throttle".

2. Car data

Here we luckily don't have too many options but include all possible data affecting fault: Year model (not registration date), RHD/LHD, engine type, body type (STW, Van, Quartermaster), optional equipment, non-standard modifications, etc. Possibly also VIN or at least running number.

3. Fault description

Describe as well as possible. Consider at least following:
  • Describe all related symptoms. Preferably also those that don't seem to be related (because they may be).
  • Separate noise and vibration. Noise type? Where the vibration feels?
  • Conditions where fault occurs/doesn't occur?
  • Does the fault occur regularly or is it random?
  • When it came first time?
  • Is it getting worse?
  • What has been tested and how? What results?
  • Fault messages or warning lights in IPC? Any fault codes?
  • What has been done recently when fault appeared first time?
And note that as systems are highly integrated it may be impossible to know if fault is for example in engine or in gearbox.

4. Other

Left and right are always viewed looking front.
Including engine compartment.

Don't use "rear door". This causes misunderstandings because it may be rear side door or rear end door.

Describing noises is difficult, but direction of it is even more difficult. If this can be heard in slow speed it is better that assistant is listening it from outside of car.

Strange faults very often are in electrics. Knowing the origin is difficult or even impossible. Before posting any question please check battery charge condition with outside meter, battery cable connections and operation of alternator, because low voltage may cause whatever faults. Alternator check seems to be difficult because of the policy of charging. Any proposals for this are needed!
