I tried to tow with my Grenadier today.
The hitch insert ( ball mount) would go in partway and then stuck. Rubber hammer only got it more tightly stuck.

We had to pull it out with a come along. That can’t be right.

The inserts fit in my other trucks.

Is this a known problem?

Is there a bolt in the underside of the receiver? The one designed to stop rattle when you aren't towing.

Yep the grenadier hitch receiver aperture is about 1mm smaller than the standard 50mm hitch receivers on other cars in Australia and not all the tongues I had in my collection fitted. Link follows to a post I made earlier in the year.

I am in the U.S. and have not noticed different ball mount shaft sizes..

This one seemed tapered as well. I guess I better contact the dealer. I have no high hopes there.

I have a GMC 2500 Diesel which is my primary towing vehicle but it would be nice to have the Grenadier available for certain trailers…..

OK…

I called my (400 miles distant) dealer ( Knauz) about this tight ball mount/receiver issue.
The service advisor told me “ There is too much paint” Wrong…

I was rumbling around in my “shop” and recognized the Ineos logo on a ball mount on a bottom shelf.

Sure enough it fit perfectly. This after 10 other ball mounts did not fit.

Got it on the bench and carefully measured. Had a mount that would not go. Dead blow hammer and all.

Turns out the Ineos mount was a fat eighths smaller on both aspects.

This is a manufacturing/engineering defect for sure….

“ Scrape the Paint” Really??

At least now I can tow small trailers….

Thanks @Parkside.

Interesting to see it’s not just an Australian problem.

Cheers Steve

My (US) spec Trialmaster specifically lists a "2" receiver" on the invoice. 2 inches = 50.8 millimeters, I saw someone reference a 50 mm receiver. 50 mm is 1.969". is it possible the 50 mm receivers were paired with 2" ball / hitch?

I have a sample of 1. I put in a hitch step. It fit perfectly into the receiver.
Not sure if that's helping but it went in easily.

My 2" receiver fits with the supplied ball / mount. My ball / mount was in a cardboard box in the cargo area. I could easily see a mixup as these are going out the door or at the port. I am sorry these events are happening.

Just measured my Curt hitch and Ineos hitch receiver. Hitch is 2.003 x 2.002 and my hitch receiver is 2.02 x 2.02. No trouble installing the hitch into the receiver. The fit is a bit tighter than on my F150, but no hammer to install or winch needed to remove it. I also have a 2 inch hitch step that is a tight fit, but still able to install and remove by hand. So variability with hitches and hitch receivers it seems.

I had 2 at home, plus now the one supplied by INEOS. 1 fit, the other didn’t. Angle grinder fixed that one in about 5mins.
