Just joined this forum, expecting to receive my Grenadier next week. Will be looking to upgrade the exhaust system, wider fender flares and rear spoiler. As I am in the auto accessories trade, will be developing retracting side steps for this vehicle as a start.
Hi Desertfox, Congratulations on your soon to arrive Grenadier.
If designing retracting steps, here's a wish list to include in the design.
#1 That when the steps are retracted, the bottom of the step or housing acts as a true rock slider.
#2 That lowered step height is no more than 305mm-356mm / 12"- 14" off the ground. Ideal would
be 305mm / 12" so that if one got lift springs and larger tires it would end up an no more than
356mm / 14".
#3 That the step width be at least 4" wide.
#4 That the top of the step, where you place your foot, has a thin non-slip rubber material on it.
#5 That the housing & step be made from 316 type stainless steel so rust will never be an issue.
#6 That you can override the steps opening when off roading or whenever you want with a switch or a remote.
#7 That the wiring connections and motor to operate the steps are water proof.
#8 Are available in both brushed stainless and power coated black.
#9 That led lights are integrated into the housing to light the deployed steps at night.
#10 That high lift jack points or openings are built into the housing.
#11 Easy to read detailed installation instructions are included.

All was taken care of, except two points rockslider part, as the steps are made of aluminum and poweder coated. Light have not been added as the Grenadier already has a door light that deploys at night. Did not want to over burden the wiring system. Tested for over 7 months so far no issues.
