Gen 2 news?

Been thinking about buying for a while, but somewhat hesitant as it's been a few years now with the Gen 1 models and I imagine(?) Gen 2 is coming with some serious improvements.

Is there any Gen 2 news/speculation?

I went through a similar progression and I think it could go either way.

INEOS could keep improving on what they’ve made or they could start cost cutting realizing that some of their component choices are overkill.

I think it’s possible that they wanted the first version to be a home run and now that they’ve more/less done that, it’s time to think about maximizing profits and reevaluating where they could save money per unit.

I would hope the next gen would address some of the shortcomings that many experience here but also keep the overbuilt components and design.

My thought is a second generation, if it happens, will be years out... I think a new model would arrive notably before a true second generation vehicle. Maybe 2026 will handle some of the annoyances of the MY23-25s, but anything beyond that would require a good bit of R&D/re-tooling, and I don't see that happening at this point

I think it’s more likely we’ll see an SWB version first and there will be gradual changes to all 3 models per MY. I hope they issue software updates retrospectively to keep owners of the vehicles up to date. Things like bigger reversing cam screen for example, I would have thought that would be easily done.

Nothing really to base that on, just a feeling I have, listening to Ineos speak and trying to read between the lines.

Have they even launched in all the countries they intend on selling into? I agree, a couple years out. Though I'm sure they'll continue to fix and make minor improvements, color option changes, third party build out options, etc... and work hard on cost reduction, supply chain robustness, and inventory for parts. Just thinking about inventory for maintenance and repairs, I can't see them throwing in more parts for more models when they don't even have the current one sorted out.

A "generation" change for a vehicle is a platform/drivetrain/technology change, often with an exterior and interior redesign. Man, we're barely two years into this one!

I think most shortcomings can be fixed with tweaks by factory (that's not what I'd call a new generation) and/or aftermarket.

@JP132 what "serious improvements" are you thinking of?

Agree with previous comments. Look at Toyota 4Runner - they’re on Gen6 - since 1984! 5-6 years between generations, but Gen 5 was 14 years! All I would expect would be minor tweaks to improve reliability and convenience - and probably not even that until 26/27. Things like the sticking door handle, SW updates, temp controls on seats and AC, etc. MAYBE in 28 we see some feature enhancements or design improvements- drive shaft, heated steering wheel, whatever. Nothing fundamental on geometry, power train, or design. I would not expect to see a new generation for a long, long time. If people don’t like it now, they won’t like it any time in the next 5-8 years. Fortunately, I love it ;o)

Don’t hold your breathe. Loud power steering pump noise, HVAC that doesn’t know if it’s coming or going. If you can live with some annoying things and dealerships that really don’t care to or are even capable of fixing things. It’s a pretty capable truck. Oh almost forgot the windshield glass that will almost certainly need to be replaced once a year at $3300 a pop.

I thought the new updated price was ~$2200??? It was <$1800 when I had mine done last year
