FAQ Direct Messaging (conversations)

The forum software has a direct messaging feature built in, however it refers to this as a "Conversation"

Select the envelope icon next to your avatar at the top of the page to open the inbox.
From there select "Start a new Conversation"
Enter the recipients username, when you start typing the system will generate a shortlist for you.
Fill in the rest of the info and send off your message.

You can do this directly in a thread you're viewing.
Click on someones username and you'll see a menu and some info appear.
From there select "Start a new Conversation"

Conversation permissions are tiered.

Lifetime supporter :

• can start conversations
• can receive conversations
• can upload attachments to conversations
• can upload audio/video to conversations
• 25 recipients to a conversation
• 1k message inbox size
• can use labels
• can create conversation rules
• can kick people from conversations
• can rejoin deleted conversations
• can export conversations
• can sticky conversations
• can unlatch/mute conversations

Forum donor :

• can start conversations
• can receive conversations
• can upload attachments to conversations
• can upload audio/video to conversations
• 25 recipients to a conversation
• 500 message inbox size
• can use labels
• can create conversation rules
• can kick people from conversations
• can rejoin deleted conversations
• can export conversations
• can sticky conversations
• can unlatch/mute conversations

Basic account :

• can start conversations
• can receive conversations
• can upload attachments to conversations
• 5 recipients to a conversation
• 50 message inbox size

When you use the search function it searches your conversations as well (if you select 'everywhere')

Hi Stu, I have used the private messaging ("Start a new Conversation"). It works great. The only thing I would like is the ability to see the complete conversations I have carried on with someone. When I Start a new Conversation again with the same person I previously have, the prior conversations do not seem to be viewable. Am I missing something or is there away to view the whole conversation threads I have had privately with someone? DaBull

A new conversation is just that, a new thread, like a new email chain if you like. To continue with a prior conversation you need to select a conversation that you want to continue and reply to the last message, even if it was from yourself.

To see all your conversations to date, then click on the envelope icon and at the bottom of the dropdown menu is a "show all" button, select that and you'll see your history.

A new conversation is just that, a new thread, like a new email chain if you like. To continue with a prior conversation you need to select a conversation that you want to continue and reply to the last message, even if it was from yourself.

You should be able to post your introduction there. If not then a screen grab really helps with troubleshooting.
