Odd the small drawbacks.

Shifter….Really? This grand classic vehicle should have as old school a shifter as the 1960’s will afford. The BMW shifter looks like it ought never to step outside a Supra.

Sounds like the A/C needs tweaking to be as quiet as 2024 will allow. Maybe we’re not as advanced in some areas as we think (generally).

Roof rack. Just seems like it ought to be standard.

Ladder….ought to be….

Love, love the split rear doors and DO NOT understand why more SUV looking cars don’t have them. Once hydraulic lifter begin to fade those lifted doors do fall….usually when you’re loading groceries. And yes, I’d be driving this to TJoe’s!

The BMW shifter is indeed a terrible match for the Grenadier aesthetically. The shifter from the Supra is actually a much better match, more rectangular and a great complement to the transfer case knob. The Supra shifter is readily available from Toyota dealers and the install is simple.

The shifter is actually designed by ZF to go along with the transmission... It became popular as the "BMW" shifter as BMW uses a similar design, again, because it's the same transmission. The Supra uses a different knob altogether as @TCMColorado stated. Plenty of videos and walkthroughs on how to swap to the Supra knob online and on the forum

It's a LHD shifter, not designed for RHD vehicles (as manual mode is forced away from body which is total shyte off road...).

Some people don’t need a roof rack or ladder to keep the price of the Grenadier down. Looks cool I agree but I keep cross bars in the garage until I need them. Unnecessary weight, wind noise and drop in economy.

Agree 100%. I think 1/2 the people with roof racks are doing it for a look - and once they got it on, it’s a PITA to take off, so they just leave it there. Same as guys who run around with an awning always mounted. Racks make sense if you have a full build in back that takes up the cargo room, so you need to store your gear up top, or if you’re trying to sleep in back. But if you don’t want to run a bunch of stuff up top, or want a rooftop tent, bars make a lot more sense. For me, it has nothing to do with money. I actually discarded my OEM rooftop kit and switched over to Leitner bars with RacksBrax quick mounts and an Alu-Cab awning. I can carry loads up top when I need to, have a system for my awning, but it gives me just what I need and nothing I don’t.

The point is, it’s an incredibly flexible platform, and the aftermarket has stepped up with some amazing products we’re all getting to know and enjoy. Each of us have different intended uses for the Grenadier - there really isn’t a standard “it has to come with this” configuration. And even if it did, as in my case, you’ll find something even cooler out there so will want to swap out, anyhow. The fact that we can get it just the way we want it, and aren’t forced into stuff we don’t want (other than ADAS) - love it.

I am not sure it is the BMW shifter. Its different to the Z4 and the Supra. Someone on youtube said its the default ZF shifter.

No. Knowing what I know now, I would not get the Rhino. So being forced to pay for it is not ideal.

Ladder….ought to be….
It is in the UK.

My car doesn't fit in my garage if I leave the roof rack on all the time, so it being "standard" means I would "un-standardise" it immediately.

Horse for courses ...
