Hi all. Reaching out to the community here for advice.

Quick drive to the store today and got the C10 Steering System Failure light coming home. I had no idea that's what it was, so I drove back to my house and looked in the manual.

The direction is to "immediately park and call the dealer for a tow. Do not drive."

The steering seemed sluggish after the light came on, but that could have also been in my head. I mean, it's a red steering wheel with an exclamation point. You are kind of looking for it.

I missed the service department office hours, but I wanted to confirm that I do in fact need to not drive it.

After drinking a beer and pondering this for a while, I went to check the warning light after I knew the head unit had reset. Warning was gone. Drove it around for a bit and it seemed fine.

I still want to talk to the service guys Monday, but thought I would ask here if anyone has had this on/off warning.

I did see where people previously had legit failures, but I am not sure if mine is, or another gremlin in the software.

Thanks all.

Did you check the fluid level in the power steering reservoir?

Not yet. That will be a tomorrow task. I was more concerned with "do not drive" warning. Seems like overkill for low PS fluid.
With the Grenadier a yellow telltale means keep an eye on it, red is take it seriously. Not sure how many sensors are on the steering system; maybe fluid level, pump function and wheel position? Something has set it off and the only thing an owner can check is the fluid level. If the pump fails it is still drivable but extremely hard to turn (you would know immediately).

I appreciate that info. Red for sure. I just checked it again and it's still off. It wasn't super noticeable when it came on. Like I said, maybe just in my head.

Either way, I'll be in the Tacoma for the next few days while this shakes out.

Certainly a good chance it was just a hiccup. Just the right combination of things and the light came one for a moment. I'd drive it for a bit and see if it comes back.
