B58 in a Defender

The owners of these two Patrols i met a few weeks ago had them also converted to B58. Seems to be not uncommon. Love what they did.

“Why would any manufacturer put a BMW B57/B58 engine in a 4x4, they are terrible engines and not suited to 4x4’s. Big mistake and give me a Toyota engine any day”

If I had £10 for every time I heard this I could have paid for the Grenny (well it’s first service). My reply is always, well Toyota use that engine and more importantly many Defender drivers and specialists class them as an upgrade for the Defender.

The guy who runs Mahker which is just down the road from me, knows what he is doing and it’s not cheap. In fact the cost of a swap makes the Grenadier look cheap as a package.

I am not surprised to see it in a Patrol either, a great engine. 👍

They do make pretty good stuff and yes, they are not cheap too.
Have you ever dropped by their shop with your IG?

I've watched a lot of the Mahker videos and like their work. My original plan was to get a Defender and convert to an N57. Getting a Grenadier cuts out the conversion grief and my man maths says cost neutral :)
