Unacceptable build quality issues on delivery?

I n reality taking a current Grenadier into outback Australia with the better half van and loaded to the maximum would be flirting with danger
Maybe , but it has been done - with no incidents.
But to use a hackneyed corporate term , everyone's Risk Appetite is different!

Are they shipping with powder coated fasteners now or has your agent just upgraded you?
They aren’t sure. They had a set in stock that were black.

Mine is due to be delivered to the dealer at any moment. As someone who was never going to to crawl around underneath it with a spanner, I’m reliant on the dealer and IA to get it right. I was reassured to see the guy who works at Hambach write that they are getting better every day.

Feels like the onus may be shifting away from the manufacturer and on to the dealers to get the final few percent of issues nailed. I’ve owned enough cars to know how much difference a dealer can make when things aren’t 100% with the vehicle. I had a great Nissan X-Trail, which was pretty much faultless, but the dealer made my ownership much less happy than it could have been by being sloppy and slow.

Perhaps if the quality/faults survey mentioned above is re-run, we should try to differentiate between things IA should be directly involved in fixing (accepting that there will always be the odd issue), and things any competent dealer should step in and sort out?

We should certainly be helping IA to see how much (bad) impact a dealer can make on customers’ perceptions of their vehicles. I would hope that IA is monitoring the performance of their dealer network with a view to weeding out the ‘can’t be arsed’ and boosting the numbers that will bend over backwards to ensure the paying customer is kept happy.

Absolutely, an agent/dealer makes all the difference either way. Can’t say enough positive about mine. Issues addressed immediately, responses immediately. Honesty and frank information.

Yep for sure, I have a huge appetite for risk, been a Land Rover owner for 20 years and traveled most of Australia in either a Discovery 1 or the current Discovery 4 which is now over 10 years old and I wouldn’t hesitate hitching up the van and heading off into the outback

I would have needed a trailer just to carry the fuel needed to feed my V8 D1 :D

Not wrong, on big trips I would carry 2 jerrycans, 45l in a underbody side tank, 87l in the main tank plus 65l LPG in tanks on the floor in the back, that was just enough to do decent outback trips towing an off-road camper trailer

Sorry to hear that mate - is this the right "hill to die on?" I presume you used those very reasonable questions as a test case of Ineos' ability to reply sensibly and in time? Certainly the boot thing is a non-issue and the workshop manuals are coming. I hope you are not too disappointed - I absolutely love my IG.
Unfortunately I have lost faith and bought a 300 Series Cruiser instead.

Mate - both of my mates who have LC300 have lost the faith with their cars - oil usage, electrical gremlins, huge build costs, etc etc.
I would rather a Grenadier with problems over a LC300 with problems.
At least the IG looks cool.

The GR Sport looks ok but I have heard bits come off if you hit bumps too hard.
Must be true because Toyota have even posted it on their website

A mate of mine has just done the trip from Brisbane to Perth towing his caravan in his new 300 GR Sport. He seems pretty happy with it, but was coming out of a 105 povo pack with an FTE motor retrofitted so anything’s an update from that.

They have had about 3-4 software updates required to fix a range of issues from turbo dump timing issues, gearbox noises, lane keeping issues etc.

Software updates are not electrical issues, they are fixes for things that aren’t right, how is the IG software update?
By the sounds of it Toyota has got on with the job then

Sorry - you are correct - I shall change the terminology from electrical issues, to electrical gremlins then. This will harmonize the terminology you want to use for electrical issues across both Toyota and Ineos vehicle platforms.

This also means now that both Toyota and Ineos are getting on with the job of fixing said electrical gremlins with software updates.

Minor issues discovered on delivery so far.

Has the usual warnings on main screen with bings and bongs, had the blank speedo side of main screen, had once the loud constant alarm from steering area that went away after 3 minutes. Have not driven much as completing the 12v accessories fitment - 340klm.

Chip in paint on the body in corner of window frame, (also saw exactly the same on a PTO vehicle on display).

Stitching is coming undone on handbrake leather and the handbrake also has a cracked/broken grey plastic trim adjacent to the handbrake button.

Fuel cover is crooked but looks like all others are the same.

Pinhole in vinyl of door card.

Small oil type stain on drivers seat leather but might be able to get off - might not.

Small black marks in grain of front passenger leather, perhaps colour stain is grazed off/black paint - not sure?

Jan build date just under 1000 vin.. batch and hold for long time for.... Q.A.?

As said all minor that does not affect the cars operation but given the $$$ it gives me the *&^s somewhat as it's my first new car (and if it's going to get marked, and it will, I'd rather it be me.)

Still a very solidly built vehicle for sure and has been great to work on. Looking forward to taking it away shortly. :D
