Just a few photos taken today as the old one moves out and the new one gets the prime parking spot...

It could be from the photos, but it's actually Magic Mushroom. 👍

They also class sterling silver as grey had to get the V5C changed.

If I remember correctly, JLR had never registered the design rights.
Failed to register the design while it was current; allowed Santana to produce unlicensed super Series IIIs, and commissioned a survey that showed that most members of the public could not see any difference between a Defender and any other large 4x4, with a significant proportion calling it a "Jeep" anyway!

The final UK decision is here: https://www.ipo.gov.uk/t-challenge-decision-results/o58919.pdf

It's a while since I read it in full, but didn't JLR admit they had no formal records to confirm the date Defender production actually started.

It was a marketing change rather than an engineering one anyway. I had a 1989 LR110CSW which was a "110" and have a 1991 Defender 90 with a 2.5D engine as a special order.

The Defender name was established because of the introduction of the Discovery. Prior to that, all of the trucks were just "Land Rovers" and distinguished by monikers like "SWB," LWB," etc. The 90 and 110 names were, as we all know, due to the increase in wheelbase (from 88 and 109 respectively). Interestingly though, the "90" was really 93" but the 110 was accurate.

What I've always found interesting though is that the 90/110s were not called Series 4s (IVs?).

Both vehicles look great. l love the look of your new Grenadier, seeing them together makes you realise how close the design is to the old Defender
