For anyone who may be interested in a bit of off road tuition then I would highly recommend some time with Hugh at Far by Four, https://www.farxfour.com/ based at Winton Castle in East Lothian. Hugh has been involved with Ineos since the press launch and now has a loan car from them so that he can introduce it to various people, including the various Mountain Rescue teams that regularly go to him for training. Fantastic to run through everything with someone who knows the vehicle and to see what it’s capable of on the variety of tracks, lumps and bumps on the Estate.

Hi Pete,
That might be something well worth doing ,if you don’t mind, approx how much is it for a days instruction in your own vehicle?

I paid around £250 for a very full half day one on one. Worth every penny in my view!

Thanks for that, I’ve emailed him to try and sort a date.

Are there any places/estates in Scotland that you can pay to drive round. There are some amazing places with tracks, but all private land, that would be perfect to experience especially for people who are unable to walk long distances and never get the chance to get away from the roads.

Simple answer is: not that I'm aware of. What I would recommend is looking closely at 1:25,000 O/S maps - see what you can see.

There is an iPad/iPhone map app that comes on an annual subscription from O/S, covers the whole UK (and to my recent surprise the USA, Australia and NewZealand).

It might be possible to find tracks that will take you off the beaten track. Do look at the high road/pass from Apllecross - check out the thread:

Any recommendations for a Scottish Grenadier road trip at Easter?

GLASS membership gives access to Trailwise 2, which I recommend joining if in England and Wales, but there is no coverage of green lanes in Scotland so my understanding was that here we're none at all. Can you remember the name of the app that covers Scotland and does anyone have it and is able to see if there are many available lanes in Scotland? I'm guessing it will work on Android too.

Indeed, there are no green lanes but there are lots and lots of private estate, forest and moorland tracks - but you do need permission to drive them.

Look up the corrieyairick pass on YouTube, I drive it a few times and it was wonderful but closed a few years ago.

There is the Scottish Green Road Club but they are a Land Rover only organisation I think.

They organise fairly mild 4x4 treks with landowners permission.

Well I had a very pleasant reply from a chap at SGRC and although they are a Land Rover club they have had a couple of Grenadiers along (anyone here?) and are willing to discuss some guest spots on a fee per vehicle basis.

Anyone interested?

I might manage the first one in a couple of weeks time but I’m away with work for the September one.

I said to the chap I would gauge interest and get back to him.
I'm definitely up for it.... in 2025! (long convoluted - boring - story to be saved for a coffee / dram opportunity!)
