Hi all - I know there have been other conversations about Insurance (and indeed the perception that some companies are refusing to quote for Grenadiers).

Just received my renewal: fully comp / protected no claims / no claims for years / one driver / approx 8k miles / £750 excess etc. £606.80

How does that compare?

Rumour has it that we even have Police officers! Not seen one for months. Most recent? At a Laphroaig evening - live bands in the courtyard etc.
That's just showing off, we just have speed cameras and cctv.

Hi Tony, thanks for this. If you don't mind me asking which company is the £606 quote from please? I'm guessing the theft risk is zero, as you just need to phone CalMac and get them to look out for one

Direct Line - I also have (so they tell me) a multi car discount . [Volvo XC90, 2018, £404].

Sounds like a good deal Tony - I am just coming up for renewal with Admiral (multicar and Gren is on van insurance). I am 40% more than you but we do have roundabouts here! Also I couldn’t apply my 15+ yrs no claims last year as I still had my D4. Have sold it now so asked to apply it this time but still waiting for an answer; hopefully that will reduce the premium a bit.

Just remembered… a couple of years back, at the Islay Festival, a motorhome was stolen at a distillery open day. Keys left in it , found three days later tucked away in the dunes - three inebriated foreigners living in it!

Hi Tony - my insurance was a similar price through admiral - direct line wouldn't offer quote and other companies were over a grand. Similar spec with no claims etc etc .Only problem here currently is drifting snow so most likely stay Aberdeen side until things quieten day, as I would look somewhat daft trying to clear snow while on crutches. Quote with Admiral was easy to do on their website

I wonder why Direct Line insure mine, but wouldn’t offer you a quote. Strange.

We had a very light dusting of snow over night. Gone now - snow here is very unusual. Being in the Gulf Stream we rarely have the extremes of weather. Except winter wind!

Honestly seems a little higher than I might have expected for your location and status.

I’m 44, 18 years ncb on this policy, no claims, no points, rural AB postcode, garaged, 10k/year, insured for me and wife and it’s about £500 as part of a 6 car admiral Multicar policy (so it does get discounted).

May check Admiral for a quote - thanks

Edit: Admiral are unable to quote on-line!

Indeed.

When I first got it (almost exactly a year ago) Admiral struggled to insure it - there was a block on the vehicle type by their underwriters and eventually the (excellent) customer services manager managed to get it fixed and they gave me an extra year NCB on all the cars and a £200 M&S voucher for all the messing about.

I’ve been with admiral for years and whilst they may not always be the very cheapest they are always in lowest few options and their service is excellent - which buys my loyalty 😅

Admiral also. Four cars on mine £555 for the Grenadier. 20 yrs NCD, parked on drive. Probably could get it cheaper elsewhere but their website is easy to use and great to have all cars done at the same time.
